Does anyone else find things like Zoom parties just

I'm on my first formal "party" at the moment, in a sparkly dress and it's so meh. And I feel like a tool in my living room in a party dress.

I'm normally super social, really enjoy "proper" social activities but other than online quizzes, I find online socials really naff.

Maybe I'm just a Covid-era party pooper

It’s definitely not just you, I have sat through a few work/family online doodahs but it’s not for me. It just feels awkward.

Mr loves the whole online socialising thing however, it means he can completely avoid talking to people and blame it on the broadband connection.

We have been tempted to pop into the cam rooms for the forum to cam things but the chat moves too quick for my dyslexic brain to keep up with.

Manchester (he/him)

It does sound rather odd.

It sounds like everyone sitting in their respective homes, feeling like tits but trying to show everyone else just how much fun it is...

It’s at times like this that I’m glad I’m antisocial

I’ve never done zoom or other online video chats, not for me.

i always think its going to be naff and then end up really enjoying myself (i say always its only been about 3 things)

i don’t drink on my own but have done for things like that and i get to natter away to people what feels like in person when most of my evenings are me and netflix so i guess thats why they appeal - bit of s break from the monotony

I hate zoom, and have avoided it as much as possible, it’s just not the same.

I've avoided them!

Why don't you get a bottle and a glass and the suggest a scavenger hunt..

Say you'll be the mistress of ceremonies and then give 'em a list of 20 obscure things to find in the house ... They come back in between each item to check in..

First one to find all items is the winner.. You get to enjoy your wine

It's a divorce party. I'm not the organiser (surprise, surprise!) Naff games R us and it's kinda awkward because there's two groups of friends who don't really know each other. I just feel daft sat in the living room in a dress looking

We don't take part because we don't see the point - plus we don't have a laptop or webcam for the pc, so would have to use a phone.

I couldn't think of anything worse I have done one zoom thing where I lurked in darkness and it was a bit excruciating. I'll wait for the festivals to be back.

This one would be difficult because one other attendee is just up the road

This is a good thing, get Mr KC to pop up the road to the telephone exchange and cut the cables.

I am drowning in Saturday night zoom quizzes at the moment. I tolerate it because it keeps my Dad in the loop.

The best zoom sessions I have done during lockdown are ad hoc relaxed spur of the moment things where our kik (swinging friends) or WhatsApp (vanilla friends) just decide to meet up on line for wine and chat.

To be honest it would probably have the same amount of awkwardness if you were there in person

We had a zoom murder mystery dinner party last week for my birthday and it was pretty good! Everyone made a lot of effort and dressed up a d itade my birthday feel somewhat normal. Will never be as good as being in the same room as my friends but it's a good alternative

Previous experiences of meeting new people for real has been much less awkward.

this sounds like fun !

i think the zoom things are difficult to find a balance. because people are that bit shyer on camera so you have to have these quizzes or games to get things going and it can feel a bit “organised fun” and cringe - in person people just break off into smaller groups chit chatting in the kitchen/ hall/ at the table or bar , flitting between each other depending where you are and that natural flow can be lost when everyone is looking at a big screen trying to talk at the same time and include everyone at once

Yes... i cringe at the thought of them, however we've used zoom as away of getting together as a family on sundays and once were in swing im fine.

We take it in turns to do the quiz, personally i think its great especially for those that are very isolated at current.

"Fake a power cut

No it won't, turn off all your lights .

Your main fuse has just blown

I've no interest in sitting infront of a camera pretending to have fun.

I enjoy face to face and will WhatsApp with individuals but multiple probably loud people nah..

Quizzes have been okay. We did one every week in lockdown 1 with my wheelchair basketball colleagues and we've done them sporadically since. This is a totally different Zoom-game (actually it's Google Meet, but same thing).

I enjoy an informal chat with mates on WhatsApp, but the idea of a party with people I don't really know just leaves me cold - I am feeling the awkwardness even at this distance!

Turn the cam off, shout a bit of "hello? Hello? Can anyone hear me?" then log off, text to say you're having technical difficulties then put your pyjamas and fluffy socks on and relax on the sofa. Job done.

Yes, this for me too.

My closest friend has begged me for several zoom dates to catch up and I just can not do it. I am genuinely the most awkward person ever when it comes to phonecalls and video chats. I always feel so uncomfortable and my brain stops working.

Nice Try

Individual video calls, yes. Video group chats and parties, so strange. It’s like a celebration of awkward loneliness haha will never compare to real life. Which, as a Canadian, I’m lucky to be able to do with 10 people or less.

Sorry to rub it in your lockdown faces I do think there are other things that would be better off suited rubbing in your faces..
