I didnt want to derail the 6 nations game thread, so decided to start another.

Why is there so much hatred (it seems to go way past friendly rivalry) from the other home nations, when we play France in particular?

As an ex Rugby player, I wouldn't call it hate, more a fierce rivalry

It’s probably a consequence of their inferiority complex.

It's not only in Rugby but also Football, can remember an England vs Croatia match at Wembley and there was several St Andrew's flags in the away end.

"It’s probably a consequence of their inferiority complex. "

I would say the opposite and that it's ba consequence of England's superiority complex. England fans can be accused of having unrealistic expectations from their teams and can be rather arrogant when things go their way. I can't say this for rugby as I don't follow it, but I think it seems to be the case in Football and Cricket

I don’t know, I’ve mentioned it before on a World Cup thread that if any of our nations are playing their round games I cheer them on regardless, it made me a bit sad that others didn’t do this when England played

Exactly this! And in itself isn't this the difference between rugby and football? Other than generic England support

Probably hundreds of years of feeling that one set of people have been looking down on others... lol

This is a chance to get one over on them....

I went to a Scotland vs England football game at hampden and I have never heard a noise as loud in my life as the booing that started at the beginning of god save the queen...

It’s was fantastic in such a nationalistic way they should so bring back the home international’s.... lol

As someone who has all three other home nations in their family, it’s been like this for as long as I can remember. Ask them why and all you get is “it’s historical and will always be the way, it’s just not right or possible to support you” and they find it odd that I support them when they aren’t playing England.... I’ve given up trying to figure it out

Exactly, why do people want to leave the Country of their Birth and risk their lives to come here?

Within our family there is a Welshman and I respect his support of his nation. And he is respectful of ours, it really is Friendly rivalry.

But when terms like Loathe (it has an E by the way) get used, I find it offputting.

(Although it does crack me up how many Americans are Irish come St Patricks Day sorry, I digress!)

"I didnt want to derail the 6 nations game thread, so decided to start another.

I backed England all the way today and they did us a huge favour

No hatred from me

A lot of rugby supporters dislike the attitude of Eddie and some players but it really has come to bite them in the arse this year

England can be their own worse enemy, if I were English I really wouldn't worry about what the rest of the rugby world think

I personally couldn't care less, I am enjoying Wales' recent success so don't really take a lot of notice of England on the whole

It's not hatred, I've never seen huge mass brawls between supporters at any 6 nations games or organised attacks between sets of supporters(pre covid) and most supporters seem happy to share bars and sing there own songs at each other)

I'd say it's mostly banter and rivalry and there's nothing wrong with it, sports becoming to prawn sandwich and corporate led for my liking.

Disclaimer.. I don't watch hardly any rugby

Nope.... definitely loath - I am very reluctant and often unwilling to support England

Did us a big favour

The problem they have is Eddie's refusal to pick on form

But it isn't my team so isn't my problem

But I can see where they have gone badly wrong this season, tge Sarries players playing no rugby etc

Okay, people might hate me..but lets be honest, a heck of a lot of people in the UK support only two teams...their own country, and anyone that plays England.

people hate England in the home nations as it seen as a colonial state that invaded the other nations and destroyed their own languages and deposed their native thrones. The home nations are very different, Scotland is a more naturally socialist country who saw little renumeration for the South making money out of their oil fields while England apart from the red loyal parts is more generally Conservative.. hence the different approaches to covid. Also English people who are of Scottish, Welsh or Irish extraction may be not keen to make allegiance to the Queen after their peoples were treated badly throughout history. in Liverpool for example its quite common to hear.. im not English, im scouse. i have a bit of everything in me so support all the teams

Why do England need to feel the love from the other home nation supporters when playing whatever sport they are having an attempt at?
