What do you miss?

Manchester (he/him)

I’ve woken up in a bit of a melancholic mood today and suddenly found myself missing a lot of the big and small things that I haven’t been able to do in this past year.

I think that in some ways it’s become something that I haven’t thought about, as a way of stopping myself from feeling this?

So dear fabbers, what do you miss, beyond the simple ‘meeting for sex’?

I miss the joys of commuting, of working in a busy office, the pressurised but fun environment.

I miss spontaneity - being able to go for halloumi fries or a coffee with a friend just because we wanted to.

I miss the thrill of various things - meeting someone new, the hug from a loved one, having that perfect meal, browsing and feeling the weight of various books.

Socialising. I want to have people round for BBQ's, get pissed and sit on the decking at 3am discussing the meaning of life.

Other than that my life's not been massively affected, I've been lucky that work's continued and, with work, I've still been allowed to be out and about.

I dread to think the state I'd be in if I was stuck indoors all the time though. I've a lot of respect for anyone who's done that and made it through this mess!

It does - people rarely care unless it directly affects them or someone they love.

It's definitely an eye opener.

I quite liked it in the beginning - especially as I'm not really a people person

But the solitude is getting to me now.

On a mooch

Seeing and spending time with family and friends, it’s been 7 months and a year, respectively since we have.

There are still a few months to go until it can happen, however it’s now nearer to that point than the time already spent apart and the time will fly by.

Travelling, we went from being out of the country most of the time to being here all of the time.

Although that’s just what we miss, as opposed to anything critical. We’re both safe and healthy and life is good.

It’s just a lifestyle hit that makes us a little bored, as opposed to some of the real shit people are going through.

This.

I cut my own hair, don't care much for the pub, travelled mainly to visit clubs so lockdown hasn’t affected what I do that much outside of now having to think about what I am going to do and if I will get fined.

I miss felling sexy and having my own identity right now I’m just mum and cook, clean and drive people where they need to be. I used to really enjoy getting dressed up, make up on and just being myself when the school run was done. I don’t see the point of it all now and could cry most days. I was in really poorly in hospital with Covid so I understand the severity but this loneliness and depressed feeling is worse than that was.

Most of all I miss people. I miss being able to sit & chat & drink coffee (or wine) with my friends. I miss spontaneity, being able to hop in the car & drive to the beach for a walk, or to go out to a restaurant for lunch, or meet up with friends. I miss being able to just do things without having to think so much.
