Even though I might not enjoy every act I watch. As a musician, I can learn something from every performance that I see.

I also hate the whole idea of identifying people as crap. If you can't say anything good... best say nothing at all.

I saw a Guns N Roses tribute act at Silverstone Classics one year and thought they were shocking, that was until I saw some live footage of Guns N Roses themselves and the tribute act were pretty much spot on to the real thing.

Revamped East 17 on a 90’s revival tour, absolutely dire!

Whitney Houston- I loved her but it was during the latter stage of her career, she was a mess, all over the place & not with it. It was uncomfortable & sad to watch,.

Whitesnake in 1987 at wembley arena were rubbish. I was a fan of their "blues" years but this performance was very bad. They must have been on an hour and twenty minutes and did not play many of their classic songs. In 1984 and 1995 the gigs I saw were great though.

Razorlight, glad it was part of a festival and not them alone as they were awful, Johnny's vocals were shocking and he just paraded round the stage giving it look at me, and everything they played was like it was on speed up and not how it sounded on a cd etc

Alexander O'Neal. Nothing wrong with the vocals, but oh my god, he'd NEVER get away with that stage performance in the post-#metoo era. I was incredibly uncomfortable.

Have seen them 50+ times but there have been times that Madness haven't been all that great...fortunately there have been many more times when they've been flipping awesome

Saw The Style Council's last ever gig too and that was awful - Weller had crawled up his own rear end that night, refused to play any hits and played obscure covers and B-sides - is probably the only gig I've been to where the whole audience remained seated throughout

Yep, the criminals were absolutely dire when I saw them. At least a quarter of the audience left in 20 minutes. They were criminals to charge for that appalling show

Seen OutKast once and was very disappointed with them live think they were trying to do things differently but didn’t seem to bring the crowd with them.

I don’t expect every hit to be played or the way they sound on the record but kind of expect a good rendition of a few familiar songs mixed in with new or whatever the band wants to play.

Survivor were supporting act for REO Speedwagon at Austin, Texas 1983. They played “Eye of the Tiger” three times. They got run off stage, and for Austin to do that to any artists, is huge!

Thank you for reminding me- Paul Simon at his “last tour” show at Hyde Park in London, he was so bad the crowds left in droves, I was amongst them. Felt totally ripped off for spending huge amounts on tickets and a stay in London! I still want my money back!

Jimmy Buffett in Vegas. The night before the gig we were in Margarittaville, Jimmy Buffett tribute act was on, fantastic night of singing, dancing and drinking.

Next night at the actual gig, 42 miles away from the stage, drinks confiscated, sitting on our hands watching.

Music was great, but the tribute act the night before was a much better night.

Didn't help that the previous night at the same venue I saw U2 who were awesome.

The only one I have seen where I wish I hadn't gone is Guns and Roses at Manchester City in '92.

Went with my brother and got early and got to the front of the stage... They were over an hour late, apparently due to Axle being pissed, and only played an hour set. They were booed when finished. Never seen that before.

Ironically, I saw them again later on that tour at Milton Keynes, because I really was into the support band, The Cult. Also on that billing was Billy Idol, (meh) but all three were brilliant. Billy surprisingly very good, Cult were excellent and GnR nailed it and were on for 2hrs. Great day.

I went to see Whitesnake around that same time in Birmingham. David Coverdale had basically lost his voice but instead of cancelling the show they went on with it. It was by far the worst "propper" concert I'd been to.

Oh another one was Aztec Camera - saw them supporting The Beat many years ago, they weren't great and possibly wasn't their kind of audience so the two things combined to make it even worse - Roddy Frame threw a strop and stormed off stage...on the upside though The Beat played an extra long set to make up for it and that made the gig one of my best ever.

10cc, I think it was their last tour, can understand why, absolutely dire. The support, some obscure Swedish or Norwegian group were much better.

Another for madness. When they'd run out of money and started touring again. You could tell they were just going through the motions and not enjoying it themselves. Disappointing to say the least. Again the support was much better.

Having seen them many times as I said further up, I know what you mean - they went for years playing virtually the same set and it *was* like they were going through the motions a lot of the time - partly down to not having any new material, partly due to laziness on their part, and partly a crowd that (mostly) only wanted to hear the hits - times I have seen them play an obscure album track and looked around to see the crowd chatting amongst themselves and the like.

They have got a lot better at mixing things up in recent years though and have found a balance between playing the hits and adding in other tracks - can still be hit and miss (Suggs voice isn't the best these days) and certain gigs (race course ones being a good example) are cash cow, going through the motions, greatest hits affairs, so I avoid them - but they can also put on a great show still - saw them at the Roundhouse in December 2019 where they were on top form and played stuff from across their back catalogue going right back to before they were well known. Likewise when they played Kenwood House with a full orchestra which was pretty special.

Trouble is you're never quite sure which side of them you're going to get - although avoiding the more "corporate" round of race course and forest gigs is usually a good guide.

Excluding open mic comedians who were out of their depth, Jason Byrne hosting at the UK Pun Championships.

He hadn't done any preparation and so didn't have any local knowledge to use during audience work and was flummoxed by people saying where they lived. He gave every impression of being brought in at great expense and relying on being a TV name to do the heavy work of establishing his comedic credentials.

When I was a student I worked in a place that had live comedians, the worst was on an open mic and this guy was just verbally abusing the audience, a woman shouted out to him and the comedian threated to putch her in the fanny thinking he was being funny, her boyfriend jumped up and knocked him out on stage.

Rob Grant the comedy writer.... we saw his one man show at the Norwich Playhouse a few years back. It was so awful well over half the audience including us walked out and left at the intermission..... it took us nearly an hour standing in the queue at the box office to get our money back!

A fuckton of britpop act in the 90s were a disgrace. I posted in another thread that I watched Embrace at a festival (was preoccupied thankfully) but they were just diabolical the crowd were so bored.

On a side note, went to Rock City in Nottingham one night, in the 90s and they had an Oasis tribute band on. Guess they forgot to tell the guy who was their ‘Liam’ as he monkey walked on stage to find another ‘Liam’ in his place. Comedy ensued as they bickered who was going to ape around as ‘Liam’.

Also got the most amazing head massage from a wire coat hanger that night.
