lateness? I am asking as the thread on getting names wrong made me think about how I feel about people being late. What do you guys think - is it acceptable? Are there good and bad reasons? Does it depend on the circumstance?

There are times when being late is accidental - if it is for a meet then a call should be made to explain.

Unexplained lateness is just rude

Depends where im waiting. If im in a pub 30 minutes is ok as id just get a pint while waiting. I am very impatient if waiting outside, 1 or 2 fags and im off....

Of course if i got a call or a txt to let me know then ill wait as long as requested......

I always plan to arrive early, and would expect the same.

However there are times it can't be avoided, accidents etc. However a call ahead to advise is essential.

Being late is a hanging offence in my books. Flat tyre - OK but not happy. Unpunctual peope - round them up, put them in a field and bomb the bastards!

I hate being being late to the point that I turn up ridiculously early and turn into one of those weird "hanging around" people with too much time on their hands.

Does it depend on the circumstance .. if a meeting and Docs or somthing like that .. yes it would matter .. I was late for Docs as found my clock next to bed was 10 mins out .. felt really bad x

i always worry about being late, i would rather be too early.

my hubbys the same.

people who turn up late and think its not important annoy me., its bad manners.

if they contact me to let me know they will be late thats different, you usualy expect young people to turn up late though.

This is me too.....I'm ridiculously anal about punctuality, ruins my day if I'm late for anything - that applies in both my swinging and vanilla life....always make sure I have a book or my kindle on me so when I'm sat wherever 20 minutes early I've got something to occupy me

If I get no word beforehand it would bug me, unless it was just a few minutes. But having said that, I'm terrible at getting anywhere on time

all my friends lie to me about 'ready' time cos they know what I'm like

Formal stuff.... I try really really hard, but usually still rush in at the last minute

My therapist said I did it on purpose to self sabotage ...so that's my excuse now, I can't help it

If you are going to be late, send a text or call ahead, sometimes things are not under your control, car accident, heavy traffic or whatever. Just don't keep me waiting without letting me know what the situation is. I always try to be around 10-15 minutes early.

For one reason or another I'm pretty much always early.

I personally don't mind lateness within reason there's fashionably late and then theres taking the piss

I almost always aim to turn up early, at the very least it gives me a margin of error for catastrophic failure on my part......

In terms of meeting some one else, im usualy intensely relaxed.... Most apointments dont happen on time and you can almost guarantee that a woman will turn up late, its fashionable after all....

i used to be very bad at being late, my friends used to tell be to be somewhere half an hour befor they needed me there lol

am much better now, have even been known to be waiting outside for people to come pick me up because i dont want to be sat around indoors

As a Londoner, timing is built into my blood-stream and no matter WHERE I'm going, I'm usually always 15-30mins early.

Some circumstances obviously can't be helped but if you're going to be late, it's inexcusable to not send a text/call. It's just good manners and if I've been waiting more than 20mins and haven't heard anything, I get my ass out of there.

In business if someone makes an appointment with me,I always stress to call me if they are going to be late, I will give them 15 minutes, then if they haven't contacted me as far as I am concerned the appt is cancelled.

The same with a social meet from here, unless the person is in contact with me I'm off.

I will set off anything up to an hour early depending on the distance involved and will always call if I hit a snag on the roads etc. With mobiles, I don't think anyone has an excuse for not keeping in touch.

I have a two and a half hour journey on Friday, but will set off over three hours before. If I get there early will call on the outskirts and have a coffee

I hate being late as I find it a b it disrespectful to the people I am meeting, whether that is in business or socially. I would make a call to say I am late, I would not just be late wherever possible.

My friend is the worlds worst, so now when she asks what time for a drink, dinner etc I tell her an hour early than the actual time

I had a friend who was persistently late. Not talking a few minutes but an hour or even two. I told her that I found this offensive and asked her to try and be bit more punctual - she simply couldnt. It ruined the friendship in the end. We still talk but we are not close anymore.
