What makes an inspirational woman?

A couple of threads today has made me think. What makes an inspirational woman? As many of the traits I find inspirational are decreed as bad on some of these threads. I guess as people are diverse the answers will be invariably the same. But I would have thought there would be some common ground.

So what does an inspirational woman look like to you?

To me an inspirational woman is someone who knows who they are, or who they want to be and they aren't afraid to go and become that person - whether society agrees with that choice or not.

It's about having the strength of your convictions and motivating others to do the same.

Good question Frida.

As I ponder similar trying to think of most appropriate reply reply my own thread.

Someone who amazes me with qualities and actions and makes me wish I possessed these myself or encourages me to be better version of myself.

Someone who is very much in peace with themselves and it shows.

Someone who isn't flawless, but overcame struggles. People who lived without struggle don't have the same 'soul vibration'.

A woman who comes from a financially and emotionally difficult and male dominated background to prove that women are equal to a man. Someone who inspires others no matter what sex to better themselves and not settles for less than their worth.

That for me is an inspirational woman

Even for me it's such a wide range of attributes that no one person could posses them I don't think.

Women who inspire me can be anything from world class scientists to stay at home mam's. There's no one way to be a woman in my opinion.

The thing that links then all to me is the confidence in their own skins. They embrace the many facets of being female, and to me have a cheeky finger up to the world that expects them to be xyz.

We don't seek them deliberately. They come to our attention, our minds , our experience and we have a mort moment of realising that this is how we could gain personal fulfilment...... this is what we want to do.........this is who we want to be.

This is not a moral judgement on my part.

Hard for me to answer as a dude! but for me, I look up to women who manage to hit that sweet spot of 'Don't care, I'm a strong female' whilst retaining that femininity to them.

More often than not, it crosses over into full bitch mode, or not enough!

e.g. if someone is dipping their toes in shit ..... I don't choose to do the same, no matter how lauded that person.

If I wanted to be a world famous comedienne , surely my inspiration would come via my observations of others.

I woudn't choose a comedienne who didn't appeal to me so my personal biases are already guiding me.

Same applies if I wanted to run a charity or be a swimsuit model.. dog walker ... what ever ....

That's interesting to me as I have probably more men who have inspired me than females. So I could answer that question several times over.

I have been thinking about this a lot too today. I noticed many people said their mum or other female family members and I really don't think any of mine were really an inspiration to me. So that made me think how do I be the kind of woman that my daughter finds inspiring? I've not come up with anything yet

This is a cracking question, and the short answer is I do find women inspirational in a different way to men. Am I inspired when I see a woman achieving in a male dominated career yes (but I also do in reverse). However, I find I can relate to some issues with women more than men, like working when pregnant and breastfeeding. Knowing how they can impact a career but see how a female can mitigate these things. So there's an un concious bias within me but people inspire me regardless of gender.

I find your thoughts interesting but not necessarily compelling, I think that it’s a chicken/egg situation. Is a person inspired by the person who embodies who they want to be or is a person inspired to be who they become because of the values of their role models?

I’m swayed towards the latter more, simply because I’ve seen the light of realisation in children’s eyes when they see a person achieve things that they never knew could be done and set out to emulate that

For me, it is someone who champions others and helps them to achieve their potential - is focused on educational and development programmes for all genders.

Someone who challenges un.consciou.s bias. Treats others with respect and doesn't turn a blind eye to prejudices or slights

Someone who recognises how far they have come and tries to help others to forge their own path
