There will be 2 sides to this ... as others have alluded to, it is however a great shame for the clear rift there is here and a family is divided.

I can’t help but think that Harry - for absolute valid reasons, has disdain and mistrust for the media and press, but when it suits him, chooses to use it to try to gain advantage.

It does also I think show a great deal of disrespect at current time. Harry’s grandfather is clearly not well, possibly very poorly, and doubtless the Queen is very worried... did they really have to air this now???

On Piers Morgan, agree completely, a disgusting media bully. Always change channels on anything he’s connected with.

I can't work out what all the fuss is about along with celebrity gossip in general. There's none of them tripping over themselves to know about my world, so why waste my time looking at theirs. In my eyes Megan would probably do for practice, but I wouldn't give up a royal title for her. I much prefer real people like we meet up with on here.

I'm trying to stay away from it all, sick of hearing about them.

For people who want their privacy they are very good at airing all their grievances in public.

I'm sure they probably have been wronged along the way but there are ways with dealing with things and I don't believe that have done it the right way or for the right reasons.

A monarchy that twists and turns to stay in "power". they are not windsors they are Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. They are descendants of a bygone age yet we cling on to them, their privileges, let them keep their lands, and to their hangers on "the institution". So we get what we want as a society...... nothing to see here ... ps it suits our politicians to have them in place too.

We will never know the truth. There is clearly a lot pain and hurt between all that are involved. They are human just like us. All families have ups and downs: there’s a lot more to all of this which we will never be privileged to, and maybe it’s none of our business or maybe it’s is who knows. Live and let live. I just hope the children don’t suffer.

No. It's not racist. There are no degrees of racism. Something is either racist or it isn't. Someone asking what colour a baby might be is not racist.

No. I don't know the reliability of that person and in any case it seems they are not only misquoted here but in the media also.

I've not seen it written or heard it said anywhere that someone asked 'how brown will the baby be ?"

Jesus no. There are better things to do. If you watch it can you save me the clip of where the words..... How brown will the baby be ? please.

Amazing that a couple that wanted to step away from all media and the spotlight have suddenly decided to 1st do a photoshoot about the pregnancy and now do a interview with probably the US's biggest tv host and media star

"I wouldn't hazard a guess Lionel. I don't know what was said but I do know that asking or remarking about the colour of skin is not racist.

So until I hear a racist remark or read one from a good factual source...... I won't be casting accusations or making stuff up.

I've had many a conversation in my family about what :- features, skin colour , hair colour , bodily dimensions an unborn baby might have .....

So questions how dark the baby will be do not constitute being a tiny bit racist?

You dont think 1 person recounting a personal experience is reliable?

No. It's not racist. There are no degrees of racism. Something is either racist or it isn't. Someone asking what colour a baby might be is not racist.

No. I don't know the reliability of that person and in any case it seems they are not only misquoted here but in the media also.

From the teeny bit i've read, it seems the conversation was with Harry not Megan and Harry has been quoted as saying he 'would never' divulge the conversation or who it was with .....

So no one knows what was said.

Phrases like , How brown will your baby be?' are being made up here on the spot.

"

Because she hasn't said the exact words

Apparently there were several conversations asked how 'how dark his skin may be'

She described these as "concerns

Is personally say that was tad racist.

True quote or hearsay aside (a difficult one!)

What sex? Blue eyes? grandads mad hair? mums teeth...

How many people with kids have NOT debated some characteristic of their future child/grandchild/niece/nephew. Its called curiosity.

Who is to say that whoever they were, they were not PLEASED that the child might have a different ethnic background, to embrace the diversity?

Of course that does not suit certain agendas and generate ad revenue.

Meghan trained at the Penelope Pitstop school of acting.

The Town by The Cross

from the Guardian ( generally reliable )

QUOTE

Asked about this by Winfrey, Meghan said there had been “several conversations” with her husband, Prince Harry, about Archie’s likely skin tone, and “what that would mean or look like”.

Winfrey asked if this meant there were concerns her child would be “too brown”, with Meghan responding: “If that is the assumption you are making, that is a pretty safe one.”

UNQUOTE

Note - Meghan says....... Conversations with Harry ....

Note - the word 'brown' is brought in by Oprhah Winfrey.

Note Megan responds - if that's the ASSUMPTION you want to make. ......

It's perfectly logical and consistent to want to give interviews to the media and get publicity, and also not want the media to lie about you/hack your phones/steal your letters/otherwise take information you haven't consented to give.

Consent is the keyword. If you consent to having sex with someone once you don't automatically consent to doing so again and under all circumstances.

If you consent to being in the public eye, you don't automatically consent to every aspect of your lives being public property.

Baffling that people can't understand that.

They look to have a few yes, possibly only a couple during which the interest for some in watching and reading about the short time they had as a couple within the establishment they're dishing the dirt on..

It's sort of ironically sad given the hurt he feels that the media inflicted upon his mum, brother and himself is now his family's paymaster to a degree..

I feel sorry for them as a family.

A father who appears to be emotionally distanced from his youngest son.

A grandmother who has been emotionally distanced from her grandson and his child.

A brother (and sister-in-law) who had all seemed so very close and happy in the not too distant past.

A young man with a new wife, a new family - where you could use your family for support and advice, if and when needed, which now appears to have vanished.

It seems like a line has been drawn in the sand and I think Diana would be devastated that her two children have a seemingly massive gulf between them now.

I don’t understand how you can sit down with James Corden and talk about your gran/family in glowing terms and then sit down with Oprah and portray a whole other side to things, just like that.

I hope Harry is happy with his new life, but I fear he may come to regret all this one day.

So all people who make their living out of social media give consent to everything that is posted about them.? Sure. The royal family institution that has been there for centuries... And someone who has been associated for 5 years with it is now taken as a bell weather for it. Get in get pregnant get out get loaded.... Different opinions make for interesting discussions but this is a money grab and nothing else.

Good to see old tropes die hard. To avoid debating with mist and sticking to royalty - common perception seems to be that the queen might be female and there are a lot of woman (titled and not) that are appointed directly by her. Half the media still adore diana. Its just the divorced actresses that didnt research the part and play the ingenue that might get some stick.

Really wish they would just fuck off into obscurity tbh and have a bit of class and just go live in privacy like they said they wanted

They said they had to take Netflix and other deals as they where cut off financially while buying an 11 million pound home in America...My heart bleeds for them

"Watching history play out. Love it

Wonder what the palaces response will be in the next couple of weeks. "

Absolutely right , it’s been semi played out before a la Edward & Wallis . Didn’t end well for them . Apart from a safe war and a life of taxpayer funded luxury of course !

"The royal family are racist?

Shocked I am

What have they done or said that makes them racist?

Asking how brown the baby will be?

Prince Phillip',s history.

Someone's history is no indicator at all of their current guilt.

I've not seen it written or heard it said anywhere that someone asked 'how brown will the baby be ?"

Well it's all over the media.

I didn't say it was phillip.

I'm guessing it probably wasnt.

Oh ....... The media. Well that's that then.

I thought the line was "There were conversations about skin colour ( or near )

Not Hey Meghan, How brown will the baby be.......

my niece has a white mother, black father and we definitely had conversations - not disrespectfully , but as it was unfamiliar to us we didn’t realise that she would be born very pale and gradually get darker over the first few weeks

talking about skin colour itself isnt racist but context is everything , ironic though if the press are calling the royals racist after some of the ways they have gone after megan themselves

The likes of the mail have been borderline racist towards her and I'm guessing they are not going to take her side on this.

Guessing is always good at the end of a maths exam.

I don't know what borderline racist is. If it's racist it's racist.

Prince Phillip has form and you questioning if he’s racist? It wasn’t so long ago Prince Harry attended a party dressed as hitler

I maybe wrong but im pretty sure Harry was also on camera referring to one of his fellow squaddies as his paki friend"

Just checking... So you think Harry is a racist?

And people who dress in fancy dress as Hitler for a fancy dress party are also racist.?

All those people who bought ceremonial tea towels etc. Wasted "

What a load of tosh!

If what I have heard is correct - they clearly stated there were only 3 of them there. Both of them & the Cardinel.

The law is quite clear in this country that there must be 2 witnesses & these witnesses must sign the legal document saying so at the time of the marriage. Any less is not a legal marriage.

Couple of fantasists in my opinion

Instead of putting your two cents in, put yourself in the shoes of meghan and harry?

How would you feel if someone turned around and commented on your kid about they way they looked and they could not help it? What would you do as a parent?

Too much antipathy in here, not enough sympathy.

You mean like every newborn ever...? They're fat, they're ugly, they're bald, they're long, they're hairy... Context is everything. Someone asking how brown the skin of a mixed marriage baby is.... May be an innocent question.. Or not. She's an actress... She acts for a living.

Disagree, it goes to the very core of our society, and how much power the British tabloids have to influence our opinions, and how we as a nation have to deal with the perceived view of Brits in general because of those papers. Do you mind if when you opened your mouth another voice spoke for you and said the exact opposite of what you feel, metaphorically speaking of course.

i think its more than possible that he did just used to be racist- but now he has a wife subjected to it he has maybe learned better - people are capable of personal growth and change when their eyes are opened to a different perspective , and i dont think it should eliminate then from being allowed to speak out about that subject in future

Yes I a quite understand certain language is found unacceptable by others. I'm not thick thanks

Just my point is its completely acceptable language for situations he has been in which 99% of people would never understand or cope with. Then they slag him off for using pretty normal language that soldiers use.

Someone on fab made a racist comment about me, I won't say who it was as it would be too damaging for that person,

Its easy to say it but if you don't state who it was and some proof its nothing but shit-stirring in my opinion

Why bring it up if you're not going to out them ?

I maybe wrong but im pretty sure Harry was also on camera referring to one of his fellow squaddies as his paki friend

Just checking... So you think Harry is a racist?

And people who dress in fancy dress as Hitler for a fancy dress party are also racist.?

And the rag heads comment?

So meghan married a racist is that what youre saying?

Nope..I'm asking do you find referring to people as rag heads acceptable language?

When did he say that? Like what's the context?

The guy served in Afghanistan correct? As quite a normal infantry soldier if I remember correctly. It's pretty normal language within that sort of situation. The reality is that war is war and is completely acceptable language within that context.

Couple of my friends served in Afghanistan and it's pretty common language. Are you really particularly worried about what soldiers call an enemy combatant?

It's fairly easy to find

He was referring to a friend.

You realise just because 1 group of people find certain language acceptable, that doesn't apply to everyone?

i think its more than possible that he did just used to be racist- but now he has a wife subjected to it he has maybe learned better - people are capable of personal growth and change when their eyes are opened to a different perspective , and i dont think it should eliminate then from being allowed to speak out about that subject in future "

I don't think anyone said that.

I'm sure if a normal person on here made such comments, people would be bending over backwards to defend them.

"I think the fact that she clearly saw it as a comment with racial undertones, should really be enough, you would have thought.

Well it obviously was for many people... She's got them all hooked on a comment she wasnt even there to hear being made, put her version of it in the public for money.

Sorry..are you saying she said those things to make money?"

As if... Would she ever do or say things for click bait and to make money.

Right..so to clarify.she made up a story about suffering mental illness..considered suicide.. and invented a story about racist attitudes in the royal family.. just to make some money?

You make a good point. The fact people generally can learn from their mistakes and things that they put on social media 10 or 20 years ago... However we know only too well that the media and public don't really want to forgive or even praise people for learning from past mistakes... They just want to hoist them on their mistakes. But yes in theory we should be able to accept that people learn and change. And to avoid double standards we should be able to apply thta acceptance to all people.

What they have said has already done that, Harry has apparently said it's not his Gran or Grandad so his Dad ? Camilla ? Brother or sister in law ? The rest are irrelevant in my opinion it might as well been the cleaner or gardener who said it

Due to currently being laid up after an injury, I watched this interview in full. There were a couple of things I found a bit odd. Firstly, Meghan said that the racist comment was said when she was pregnant. Later, when Harry was on his own, he intimated that it was said before she even got pregnant. When he said this, his eyes flick to the right as though somebody is signalling. He changes direction straight away. I think if such a comment was made to me, I would remember exactly when it was said.

Secondly, they both seem to look "past" Oprah on occasion. I do wonder if there was a teleprompter behind her.

I will be interesting to see if the same "edit" of the interview will be shown on British tv.

That's a great plot. It would make a great interview with a daytime TV host. That could never happen from a prima donna actress could it.

It's saying on the news that Harry complained that the Royal family cut them off financially.

That's really awful! I'm pretty sure that when you leave a job role, your ex employer still continues to pay you forever.

You dont think 1 person recounting a personal experience is reliable?"

no and no
