You know what Rose, you've got me stumped a bit. My Grandma was a really wonderful woman and she had a huge influence on my life and taught me so many things. However, beyond her, all the positive role models in my life have been men. Maybe it's why I'm like I am?

My inspiration is my sister... 6 years older than me!

We fought like cat & dog when we were younger but we’re now the best of friends even though she lives the other side of the world!!

My grandmother was always the most inspirational woman I knew. I grew up hearing all about her life especially her time in the WRAF during WW2 and one night in particular when her barracks in South Kensington were hit by a doodlebug bomb. Such a strong lady and so loving at the same time

Do you know I've been thinking about this and I haven't had that many positive female role models in my life really.

I think the woman I admire the most even though we have a tricky relationship is my sister she's only 18 months older than me but she is just amazing she has been through so much yet gets up every day puts one foot in front of the other and somehow gets throw and I just think that's amazing.

Quite simply my mum, my two grandmothers and two great grandmothers.

3 of these women all lost their husbands in their 30s or younger, they never remarried, worked and bought up their families on their own, but they always had a smile on their face.

All 5 women taught me, no matter if you are on your own, no matter what you face, you face it head on, you get up the next morning positive and ready for whatever comes your way, absolutely nothing will break you completely except death. Live your life and the cards it deals, it won’t be easy but you will always find something to smile about no matter how small.

The most inspirational woman in my life was called Sharon. She was the woman who was older than me that I met on Poole Quay all those years ago, and enlightened to the fact that what was hanging between my legs was not for stirring my tea with. The rest is history! Sadly I've never seen her since.

I'm going to go for a more controversial woman growing up, Margaret Thatcher. Probably too young at the time to understand her early decision making. I watched a head strong woman become the first female prime minister. She dragged the UK forward in a trade union, male dominated world.

As a child in a one parent, inner city council estate we suffered as much as we gained from her policies. However, an iconic female figure non the less.

Most definitely my best friend. We met through fab oddly enough, with our partners, a few years ago now and just clicked. We talk every day even if it’s just something silly. She’s lots younger than me but is a total inspiration in lots of ways. She’s a beautiful lady and a beautiful friend. She showed me what a true friend really is and she inspires me to be happy and to know my worth

Mrs Low that hit me on the head with a blackboard rubber. Tall with a killer pair of legs.

Miss. Hathaway, French teacher. Very sexy accent.

Or, the stand in PHD student, Marina, (Morris to her friends

I find Jacinda Ardern very inspiring. There are so many women out there in politics (Diane Abbott has suffered so much abuse but continues her work in politics, Jo Cox too was a tenacious fighter for people), STEM (Katherine Johnson), the Arts (Bernadine Evangelista, Margaret Atwood, Tamara de Lempicka, I could go on and on but I won't!), etc, etc. For those of you who are interested, I came across many of these through the Mighty Girl website.

Most inspiring on a day to day basis though, are my best friends, and my amazing mother, sister, aunts and cousins.

I was very fortunate to be surrounded by by women growing up. I have an incredible mother, 2 wonderful grandmother's and the numerous aunts and older cousins.

They all taught me something different, and inspired me in different ways.

I think the main thing I learnt from them was the confidence that I could do or be anything I put my mind too.

I don't really have that same confidence anymore. I think I need to spend some time thinking more like them going forward again xx

My grandmother was my rock, my rôle model and my confidante when growing up, I was very lucky to have known a wonderful human being, my mother in the other hand is the worst kind of role model and made my life hell, I had a deep distrust of woman growing up apart from my grandmother. I promised myself that I would be like her, I work with young people and would like to think I have supported many young girls, women on their life journeys, and have been contacted years later and thanked, I don't look for praise, or recognition, but to know I am not my mother is satisfaction enough, there are many women throughout history who have inspired and there are many women with the opportunity like Margaret thatcher who could have done more to be of great influence for women but sometimes power gets to their heads like men no different and destroy the potential to be one of the greats.

Women all over the world have I fluenced and educated, inspired and left their mark for future generations and many more will follow

My mum.

She’s often made me feel unsure of myself. Made me doubt myself by questioning if I’m sure I really want to be doing whatever it is I’m jumping into with both feet.

But, when I fought for custody of my daughters, she was there, on the phone, every day telling me I could do this. Listening to me when I cried and when I planned my next move.

She doesn’t understand what I’m doing. Why I’m so determined to transition. She even tried to stop me coming out to my kids.

But, she still tells me she loves me. Shes there to listen when I’m in tears. She’s trying so hard to support me even though I can tell she really doesn’t understand why.

She’s a hard, sometimes cold, woman. But she’s my mum and she brought me and my sister up on a very tight budget on her own. She taught me if I wanted something, no one was going to give it to me. I had to get it myself.

My best mates mam, she's a powerhouse of a woman. She's taught me so much about my own values and worth. School said I was thick, she told me I could do what I wanted if I worked and wanted it enough. She's the embarrassing woman who loves my achievements and tells anyone who listens about them. She also told that teacher who said I was thick what I do for a living. Her biggest thing is that she dragged this awkward timid unloved child, and showed her what love truly is. It's made me a better person and a better mother

I’m sorry to say that I didn’t have a strong familial female role model growing up really, definitely not during my teen years.

My strong female connections were my friends, from literature and my first girlfriend.

I’ve had to unlearn an awful lot of male bias during my life but I look to strong women for balance and I’m proud to say that my partner is one of the strongest women that I’ve ever encountered

My Grandma. I only ever knew her in a wheel chair but she never complained about her circumstances she simply got on with life the best she could. Made especially difficult in an era where there was no real disabled friendly access she forged a path for others with her letter writing and kindness.

She’s like a sister to me. We became friends in adversity, and have supported each other for many years. She’s always there, and always has nice words and sage advice.

She even stuck by me when I, like a complete numpty, developed feelings for her (I’ve got thwt sorted in my head now)

The women who influenced me the most were the ones who showed me the pathway to deal with my weaknesses and how to bring my strengths to light and for benefit of others.

It probably started with my Grandmother who took on a role of my mother. How she showed me the way to heart with her wholesome food and cakes, how she always tried to remain the one in the family who keeps hands on the pulse, giving her just but sometimes harsh opinions. It was needed thought.. being challened. We do not have an easy relationship as she was always fond of criticism fueling ambition approach, rather than praise and loving "you are good enough". But we made the best of it in very hard circumstances for us both. She had a harsh life, loved learning but had to drop out of school to help with her father's work as eldest daughter and her mother passing away when she was just 20 and newly married and younger siblings to look after. But she coped brilliantly. I wish i had half of her energy and stamina at any given age. I'm lucky to still have her around.

My primary school teacher. She had my class under her wings for 4 years and i can say i have never meet anyone who would speak of their subject, which was History, with so much passion and fire. It was never a dull experience and she always set the bar high. No favouritism at all. Everyone had same chances. All the lessons we have learnt from her and how she brought us together during many escapades we had, will always stay with me. There was a time where I was playing a host during a fashion show for the school event. I made a mistake when speaking and I admitted. After she came to came and something you wouldn't expect happened. She wouldn't coddle me up and say don't worry, mistakes happen. She said firmly but not coldly.. Next time when you make a mistake like that, there is no need to admit it. Nobody wouldn't know otherwise as you wrote the script, so remember you own it.

That was astounding. And her faith into us. We were always expected to be responsible and deal with difficult choices in almost adult manner. We thought she was harsh but when we met years later for reunion we all cried finding out she passed away from liver cancer. As adults we realised she always wanted us to fight for a better future, but keep up with traditions and that she believed in every single one of us. That we can do better.
