I get them really badly when I’m trying to sleep after a night shift. My big toe feels like it’s bending upwards- OUCH!

My GP prescribed Quinnine Sulphate tablets which have worked brilliantly.

Tonic water also has Quinnine in it which may help.

I get plantar fascitis, and I find that taking magnesium helps.

I've got some soluble magnesium tablets from Boots, and they help pretty quickly.

I have the answer, you’ve lost salt, you need to replenish the salts you’ve lost after said activity, try an electrolyte drink.

I used to have plantar fascitis but it went away by itself luckily, after about 2 years of misery. The magnesium seems to be a lot of people's suggestions so I'll try that! Thanks

If hydrating & light exercise (stretching the muscles) before bed, light bed covers & slightly elevation of your legs isn't helping - I'd suggest speaking to your GP - you may need some blood tests just to rule our any medical conditions that feature cramps as a symptom.

Oh and if you wear heels maybe give them up for a while too!

To much tension in your legs when building up to orgasm

Or could be a vitamin deficiency

Rarely but usually in one foot if it happens. Stall the pain by quickly wriggling foot fast until it subsides.

I used to suffer alot and ended up with a condition that i didnt know about as i dont like salt..i dont have enough in my body to stop cramps in my legs...the solution for me after the quinine tablets was lucozade sport to replenish vital salt and potassium and also magnesium...now im just about cramp free,i get around 3 or 3 attacks a year so might be worth getting your levels checked.x

Another vote for magnesium (and electrolytes in general).

I know if I take insulin and head to bed without taking magnesium I am likely to get foot or toe cramps.

My partner, she suffers from this, and oddly enough whilst searching for something yesterday, I came across a website that explained the issue in detail and recommend drinking water before bed time. Evidently whilst asleep, your muscles in your leg and feet need water. I cannot remember the reason why. Sadly though, I cannot find that website now, even in my history of where I visited yesterday but there are plenty of others if you google it.

Careful taking quinine, look up the side effects, my mum started losing her hearing. She suffers awful with cramps.

Try stretching your feet before bed.

I've heard cork can help though I've not heard from anyone who's tried it, put corks or a Cork board under the sheet in the bed by your feet.

Yes - doctor told me to drink tonic water with quinine as I was getting leg cramps when pregnant - it worked.

More bizarrely - I suffered from leg cramps at night as a child and my grandma told me to keep a potato in my pillow case .... that worked too

Magnesium and Potassiam may be low in your diet.

I have noticed since taking magnesium supplements, and getting a good dose of potassiam daily from avacodos, that nocturnal foot cramps are a lot less common now.

I just had to Google the Cork thing, it said nobody knows how it works but apparently it does. But I've heard it from more than one person that it does work.

Try an old Cork backed place mat if you have one, less lumpy than actual corks

My mum keeps her feet REALLY warm during the day, if they get cold at any point, that guarantees cramps.

Water and electrolytes should help . Potassium is an electrolyte so the suggestions for things like bananas and coconut water which contain it are a good idea. Magnesium is another good one for muscle cramps. You can get magnesium sprays that you spray directly onto the skin and the magnesium is absorbed.
