Ladies Health Checks

Just back from a routine mammogram and just wanted to remind all you ladies to keep up with your health checks

I know that some friends of mine are worried about being out in public places & hospitals during shielding or being in lockdown but I'd totally encourage everyone to keep their appointments.

And if you know someone who's struggling to get to them how about giving them some support by asking them to contact their surgery / hospital to talk through their worries.

I've had my mammogram , a smear which prompted a small follow up procedure during lockdowns , I'm firmly in the pro go for it camp

Absolutely - no arguments on that front. Health is an absolute personal choice!

Just a friendly reminder & encouragement for those that do. Sometimes these things get lost in the midst of other things going on

Just do it.

My mother died of breast cancer aged 27. I've no memories of her i was too young.

For the sake of your family and yourself, just do it. Same for smear or prostate checks.

I think the first time when you don't know what to expect they can be uncomfortable but relaxing throughout certainly makes it easier

I think the uncomfiness is worth it to know you're ok x Same with smears

I had cervical cancer when I was very young (21) - I was very lucky to have had it detected & only because of other issues at the time - I wouldnt have fallen into the surveillance age range and in all probability wouldn't have survived otherwise.

Sometimes worries about the screening puts people off - we need to talk about these things more x

Sorry to hear about your mum. (((Hugs)))

My mum also lost her mother to breast cancer & quite possibly secondaries ( she was described as being "riddled"). She was 29 when she died leaving my mum aged 5 & a son aged 3.

Treatments have changed thank goodness but still so many families left with their loved ones

In the last week i found that a new lump was non cancerous from mammogram and scan.

Coming from someone who has been through breast cancer , get to know your body so you recognise whats normal / abnormal.

Mammograms aren't great but better that most other treatments.

My nan and mum both had breast cancer so I never miss mine 10mins tops .could save my life .xx

My mammogram didn't show my breast Cancer I've just been diagnosed with, it was shown on ultrasound at the 7 o'clock position. But my case was unusual. I accept any free screening I can as without your health, life becomes very very difficult.

Had my smear in April, not eligible for boob squashing yet, but I check them at home. Had to go to the doc for swabs today, my stupid broken womb and its scaffolding device is causing me gip

I got a letter back in November inviting me to book my smear. Tried to call my GP and couldn't get through, so had every intention of calling back again. Totally forgot until a friend mentioned a couple of weeks back that they'd had theirs. It's definitely easy to lose track of things sometimes. Especially during Lockdown xx

It's been incredibly difficult to get through to my GP to book in. And my surgery won't allow appointments to be booked via the app. Took many attempts to get through. A lot of people phoning up to ask about vaccines apparently. All done and dusted now though

"Ambushed" lol. They sound very thorough at yours. I usually have my smear at the GUM clinic during routine checks. I've had no reason to go for a while though

They can be, but I take a couple of paracetamol 40-60 mins before my annual check and I'm mostly fine, though last one was a little uncomfortable.
