I’m not sure if this has been done or even if it would work but as it’s WBD, let’s see what folks think.

As many of us are stuck at home and shorn of social interaction, how about we pick a book, read it, then discuss it after a week or two?

Anyone can nominate a book but if by general approval and voting, we pick, then read.

I read quite a few of these genre when I was recovering from an operation and I decided I don't want to read any more.

If there were lots of doom and gloom, or psychological real-life stories I wouldn't be able to read them.

I thought that this might be an option but it depends on how many people take part. If it’s a handful then that’s an idea, if it’s lots, then that will be difficult.

I think that picking a book between us, then going from there, just to get the ball rolling

This could be important given that when a book is chosen probably only the 'chooser' will like it in any case.

I do get that. I miss the smell of book shops...

I'm not saintly enough to stay faithful to them though. My friend insists on supporting his local book shop ...... sadly I know he's losing

Have you ever been to the Strand Bookstore on Broadway? A bookshop the size of an out of town Tesco with ladders to get to the top shelves. The smell is incredible.

happy to buy a book a month. If this doesn’t work for others maybe they can do a spin off that works for them. Otherwise it falls into the category of trying to please everybody and not working for anybody.

I just posted a book of the month from Hay so that was a no brainer. Bound to be excellent. But it's probably a £20 hardback. I'm fine with that but we should factor cost in. World of books and we buy books do second hand paperbacks for pennies.

I'm happy to read my copy and post it on to someone else if they're on hard times. Loads of us are.

Once a book threads started it’s just there to be picked up whenever as people read the book so there’s really no limit for people to join whenever.

A book a month sounds doable, I wouldn't exclude anyone from suggesting myself. It's possible some won't feel up to sharing their own writing, but that's up to Tea / everyone else.

I will wait until there is a thread with a definite book, I am open to reading most things but fantasy and lifestories are my favourite.

I have been reading alot during lockdown and probably bored Sophie to tears with my waffling about the stories, so a book club would be perfect x

Have read reviews for all of these now, their praises are well and truly sung. I've just realised I like Matt Haig already from Notes On a Nervous Planet.

Midnight Library, Light Perpetual and Lanark are the standouts for my tastes. I never read much in War (all the light) or Crime (Pariah) genres so it'll be interesting for me if I'm pushed that way.

I couldn't finish 'how to stop time' but I have struggled to get enough focus to read this last year. This one does sound good though.

I go to a book club and people out forward suggestions and then we vote. Usually pick a few months worth at a time. We also have a max of 300 pages as a lot of us are working mums and can't always finish a book in a month!

Wow, published in 1981. I'd really thought I would have heard of this by now.

He said it recently was back in print. I don't know why it has become a cult classic.

I'm definitely intrigued by it.

Have you ever been to the Strand Bookstore on Broadway? A bookshop the size of an out of town Tesco with ladders to get to the top shelves. The smell is incredible.
