Do you prefer to live in tranquillity or in the city?

I like the city, but I dont like to live in the city as I prefer the tranquillity abit more. I am quite lucky that I live on the outskirts of the city so I get the best of both worlds. I could easily live very rural with lots of nature around me

I live somewhere similar to your description- though it is classed as a city.

I don't get involved in community though

I have veiws across to the lakeland fells from my back garden. Nice and quiet. Owls hooting at night at fields to the back garden. PERFECT especially as I grew up in a large town.

Only one downside, not the easiest place to find nice people to have some fun with. Especially as I think I’m around 30 years younger then everyone else around my area lol

I hate the idea of living out in the middle of nowhere. I love cities and the hustle and bustle. The first time I went to New York it was everything I imagined it to be as a kid. However I prefer living on the edge of cities where it’s a little quieter. Best of both worlds!

I think if I won the lottery I’d want two places one in the City and my main residence in the countryside somewhere.

Give me the choice currently and maybe because of my age I’d prefer the countryside now. Long walks with a canal side pub at the end of it, seems like heaven to me currently.

We have both lived in the country and now live in a so called "City" and where we are it's got to best of both worlds so main reason we stay put and draw backs in most cases and can't beat escaping to the countryside !!

Although I have City in my name it’s deeply ironic, as I get panic attacks or nose bleeds if I venture into the city, I feel like Stuart Little and People are Strange echoes in my head, totally out of my depth, that’s why I live in a yurt, in a field deep in the shire, where a nearby herd of cows are my only friends.

I’m also lucky to live on the green belt so have open fields and woods behind my house and just 15 min walk into a decent sized town. When I lived in rural NZ I missed the city a little, I like people and not being isolated

Yes, me too, like a nice picturesque village. I had a look at some places and snowshill, gloucestershire looks very nice too

I think I would struggle with living in silence, after living near a busy-ish road.

During the tightest lockdown it was eerily quiet, with hardly and traffic or people walking past.

I do enjoy hearing the birds sing though.

I live 9miles from Glasgow and 30miles from Edinburgh. My house is beside a large country park and surrounded by countryside which is perfect for me and the dogs. Also have excellent transport links into the cities which i like to visit when i can.x

Driving home over Kirkstone Pass on Monday evening, it was gloriously sunny, with not a vehicle or cyclist on the road, so I stopped, in the middle of the road, and took a photo of the empty road as far as the eye could see in front of me, and shared the pic via WhatsApp, to my colleagues around the North West, with the title “It’s total gridlock again!”. Some of the replies from people stuck in and around Liverpool (never ending roadworks on the Derby Road?) and the ‘M60 carpark’ were quite choice, and the consensus was that I am a very lucky fooker

Neither, I'm a townie. Not enough around and too quiet in the country and cities are too busy, where I live is great, its a big town but if you go 5 minutes outside it it's all countryside, or go 20 minutes south and you're in London. Best of both worlds

Having lived in various cities, the countryside and in makeshift towns, I can can see the excitement of the city but the overall way of life in the country far out weighs that hectic city lifestyle. But these places are slowly being transformed into mini cities in the summer months, with the influx of visitors... Countryside near the mountains beside the sea would be a bonus, or maybe an island

I’ve always lived in a quiet village and love the peacefulness.

I did live in town for awhile in my later teens and partying years but soon moved back to the village as I missed the greenery around me, the country smells etc.

Now I avoid going into town as much as possible.

York

I spent the first 30 years of my life living in a rural village so I'm a country lad at heart. I enjoy living in York for the nightlife, history and amenities but I still made sure I was on the outskirts so I can walk five minutes down the road and be out in the countryside again. York is a bit of a unique city though which doesn't feel like a city. There's absolutely not a chance I would live in the urban concrete sprawl of some of the UK's other larger cities.

I live in a small town in North Wales, it’s beautiful but there’s not much action going on. Luckily I travel for my work so get to visit city’s all over the uk but planning anything in advance is difficult because I get very little notice of where I’ll be next...

I'm definitely a tranquillity lover - my nearest neighbour is 6km through a forest and that's if you swim across the river. 12km by road. I can guarantee my cats do not shit in other people's gardens

We live in the middle of nowhere in an AONB and it's bliss.

It's a bit of a bugger when you run out of milk though or you want a takeaway but no one delivers.

We wouldn't have it any other way though. The views from our house are amazing as we are very high up, we can see for many many miles, we have lots of space to walk around and it's lovely and peaceful.

Yet we can be in a city in 40 minutes and at the coast in just over an hour. It's perfection for us.

Lived in London for 35 years..

Today I watched great and little egrets hunting in a dyke, badgers emerging at dusk onto my land, the resident barn owl hunting, roe dear drinking from my pond. A grass snake rearing up at my dogs and most days when I’m in Lincolnshire are the same.... guess where I’d rather be....

I was a city girl in my youth and didn't appreciate it. I've lived in the country for over 30 years now and while yes, it is tranquil, it is also very insular and parochial.

When I take friends to the city to show them the sights they say I change completely and "come alive". I find that interesting.
