.

To go deep enough to see them you would need a submersible not a diving suit

The cunning buggers only glow on their belly's. Some scientists think this is to illuminate the sea floor while they look for food like the scavengers they are. Others think it's to give stealth because underneath it looks like daylight above. One thing is certain.. they are as cunning and evil as they come..

There was one with a light on the front and they said it 'searched out the dirt'. Not convinced myself. Just hoover and don't miss anywhere.

Pretty sure it would be residing deep down where the light can't reach. They've evolved to live and hunt in the dark

Can they turn it on and off Tom?

Or do they have a dimmer switch?

Your right. Strange how these things evolve. I once read about a conger eel that actually electrifies it's prey with a 240 volt shock. Then it eats you.

The shark is the equivalent of a thug waiting in a dark alley and shines a torch on you before attacking.. his cunning only matched by it's evil intention...

The article does not say and not sure the scientists know but in 2021 there should not be any more of these surprises down there.

This was in deep water around New Zealand so don't worry about it, worry about the Great White Sharks spotted off cornwall!
