Geeks assemble!

Manchester (he/him)

The time was, when geeks were uncool, socially awkward and spent the daylight hours discussing hit rates, comics and spells. That time is now long gone and we grew up, took over cinema, TV and media. Ok, I’m still socially awkward but geekery is now cool and what’s better than finding people who share that love?

Fellow geeks, post your fandoms here and who knows, you might find your paladin 10th class to adventure with!

Marvel and DC. Yep DC. DC. DC. Comics in general.

Anime.

That's not an exhaustive list but as I'm typing this - these are all pretty much mainstream basic geek requirements.

It does make me sad how DC constantly drop the ball on their DCEU, they even managed to mess up the few good things that they had!

WW84 is dross, Birds of Prey was dull...

Hopefully RP can do something good with Batman but even then, they can’t keep rebooting the same character!

Three actors in cinema by comparison to six?

Marvel also had the good sense to mix up the concept and didn’t do the origin story again. Personally I think that Tom is a brilliant spidey.

“I’m attacking the darkness”

Anyone that doesn’t get that was unlikely a Geek gamer back in the early 2000’s.

Started off with Dragonlance books, then morphed into DnD via Heroquest and SpaceMarine board games.

Loved collecting WH20k. Played battletech both table top and console/pc games.

Spent many a weekend at the Trocodero in London doing their battletech “simulator”

Obviously a star wars fan, and so when they were rereleased in the Cinema, went and watched all 3 back to back.

Love the Cinema as an experience, and movies in general.

Moved onto Tolkien and Fiest as authors, along with John Scalzi’s old mans war series.

Met my wife in Everquest, spent years leading guilds in EQ and WoW with a few Horde side server firsts. Was in the WoW beta back in 2004.

Have attended a few comic-cons in the UK. Would like to do SFCC mainly for the exclusive toys.

Collect Lego and Transformers, but my comic collecting was limited to Jay and Silent Bob and Wolverine.

The Mrs has an OG Witchblade comic collection.

Thats a quick word vomit for my sins.

And because they'd rather appeal to a mass audience by simplifying storylines, removing any hints of anything particularly dark when really they should be embracing that. Look at Joker and how fantastic that was - it didn't shy away from certain issues, nor did it sexify it.

Ok... so I’ve been a geek and started playing 40K back in Rogue Trader times... 30 years later and I’ve got back into it during lockdown last year. Not played much 9th edition but currently building up Death Guard, Ultramarines and Necron armies... anyone want to see my painting work just ask...

Oh and also massively into other nerd pursuits, this is probably just the nerdiest

Kill team and Necromunda always seemed more manageable... and the newer AoS skirmish game types.

Ive got a few thousand points of Space Wolves (all pre-primaris) and a small Raven Guard force for 40k.

I've also got a sizeable Ogre/Ogor army, but have never fielded them with AoS rules.

I keep meaning to pick up the newer edition of Blood Bowl too. I have an old metal Skavenblight Scramblers team I'd love to use again.

How about yourself?

Mr KC fell out with GW just because of how much it all costs, especially to play a full army. So he's switched to anywhere between 3mm to 10mm realistic warfare stuff. French Revolution, Napoleonic era, WW1 and some ancient warfare stuff. He paints it all, obviously and gets terribly excited about his next delivery of toy soldiers

He can satisfy twin interests with realistic stuff, so at the moment, he's reconstructing WW1 naval ship formations, convoys etc, researching damage and suchlike so he can make it realistic.

Btw if whoever plays Mr KC at 40k or whatever, good luck. He's memorised most of the rulebooks

Shivers - Renegade Space Marines (CSM rules) I don't chase the meta and know they aren't competitive but meh, they're my dudes (and dudettes)

Know what you mean about the constant updates. I'd like to find a group that play with a legacy rule set for that reason.
