I’m on a roll tonight guys.

So who do you think in your opinion is the best Guitarist?

For me it’s Slash.....especially his live collaborations on stage with MJ....pop Prince and rock Guitarist together, who would have thought it....

I always get slightly annoyed by "best" musician questions, as I think that art is so subjective. It's not like measuring fastest, strongest, or biggest.

My favourites though include: Richie Sambora for his tasteful melodic soloing, Joe Satriani for his imagination, and Brian May for just being Awesome in every way... there are many many more though.

Eddie Van Halen. He totally changed how the electric guitar sounded. He brought 80's playing into the world around 1978 with release of the first Van Halen album. A massive influence on many, many guitar players and will be much missed.

I always fear the risk of coming across as sanctimonious whenever anyone asks this question (certainly not my intention) because my 'answer' is simply this: There is no "best" as playing guitar is not a competition.

What you are really asking is "who is your favourite guitarist?" or alternatively "Who's playing impresses you personally the most?"

My answer to those last two questions is David Gilmour. I like his playing the best and his playing has had the most influence on my own. But he's not the 'best' guitarist. No one is.

It's a tough one to pick only one.

Eddie Van Halen is definitely up there is very skilled technically.

Antoine defour makes some amazing sounds with harmonics and finger tapping.

Another great... If something of a bitter Character. Total opposite of Peter Green in that Howe will use a hundred notes to Green's one. Versatile in that he plays electric, acoustic, mandolin, pedal steel, Spanish... probably more.

Jimmy Page. Check out 'it might get loud' doco - and peoples faces when he casually plays 'Whole Lotta Love', also he rewired guitars bespoke - genius - invented sounds - pedals and effects - played on something like 60% of the 60's hit parade as a session guy - the list goes on! 2nd Jeff Beck - they were both in the Yardbirds at the same time briefly (1966)- Happenings Ten Years Time Ago. The film 'Blow up', is also a classic (1967) 'Stroll On'.. Thank Goodness the Velvet Underground failed to show up for that scene
