Pub crawl...

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Once the fuss has died down about reopening and pubs are back to normal again I am going drinking.

Now I don't mean a few craft ales and a hand crafted sour dough nduja and organic chilli pepper pizza. I mean a tour of 6 to 10 historic working class boozers, a curry house and then back to mine for some "top shelf" spirit based beverages which we shall drink till we can't feel our legs.

At approx 10am the next morning, after a quick shower, we hit the greasy spoon for massive fry up, find a pub with a game on and a pool table, have a sensible little day-drink before we wend our seperate ways before sun down.

Who's with me?

No lightweights now, and nobody who starts trouble when they've had a few. I don't want to have to be looking after people who can't handle their booze.

I'm always up for a pub crawl.

I'm massively lazy with a short attention span though, so I find a decent boozer with a good atmosphere after a couple of stops and settle myself in there for the night, completely forgetting the purpose of a pub crawl.

Not even sorry.

But, as mentioned above, are we eating?

And what are the rules on power naps?

I advise grazing all day, a burger here or there, plenty of snacks. Napping is frowned upon in the pub tho.

However . . . There is no mention of flirting with other attendees- that may be the deal breaker or are we going along with we're just all going to do that anyway???

There and to the left a bit

Back in the day this would have been right up my street - after a year of barely any alcohol I fear I may not last the pace.

And Meli you've been in a Sam Smiths - the STP we both attended was in one, although I wouldn't have said they were particularly rough and ready - the ones I can think of off the top of my head (The Chandos and Princess Louise) are almost the opposite of that

"Only 6 - 10 pubs...tut tut that really is lightweight

More fighting talk I like it.

Well I am Scottish, we have been known to do all weekend "

We do drinking on these islands for sure! Glasgow is one of the best cities I've been for a session in.

The Welsh are the dark horses when it comes to drinking tho. You gotta watch them. Under the table I've been.

There and to the left a bit

"Back in the day this would have been right up my street - after a year of barely any alcohol I fear I may not last the pace.

And Meli you've been in a Sam Smiths - the STP we both attended was in one, although I wouldn't have said they were particularly rough and ready - the ones I can think of off the top of my head (The Chandos and Princess Louise) are almost the opposite of that

Historically tho? Cheap boozers. The Glasshouse Stores is my fav. Not rough and ready as such, just no frills drinking holes. "

Yeah definitely traditional "pubs" rather than restaurants with a bar - not a fan of their beers, or alternate non-branded drinks selection mind

However . . . There is no mention of flirting with other attendees- that may be the deal breaker or are we going along with we're just all going to do that anyway???

Flirting is an essential part of life, if people go home with other people's numbers all the better, but I'm in this for the session.

Count us in then

What tunes are you playing back at yours??

Depends who's there, I'm a crowd pleaser. What's your genres?"

I'm very eclectic in music - I have a penchant for Jethro Tull but just at home singing very badly to anything that raises the spirit including incredibly awful pop tunes

Oh I love spirits. Best stick to them - I lose all inhibitions with wine. Oh wait. . .perhaps I could just have a couple . . .

I used to drink in a pub called the New Dock, but everyone would look at you blankly if you called it that - everyone in this area knew it as the Blood Tub, with very good reason. You never put a drink on a table in there, because you never knew when that table would be thrown and you'd lose your pint.

Another one that's long been demolished, gone but not forgotten!

Yesss!!!

I have no fear of losing, I get sharper the better the competition is. My mate is (or was) ranked somewhere in the top 50 in the country. I beat him once. If I have 3 or less balls left when he wins I've played well.

Can not wait for pubs to reopen and we love a good pub crawl. We both love a good ale but atmosphere is king. Especially anywhere where people don't take them self too seriously. And if it ain't our sort of vibe, it's off to the next. Part of the adventure is not knowing who we're going to befriend (often misfits like ourselves), what capers we'll get up to and how the night's going to end. As to witherspoons in the morning it's not unknown for us to have left a club after an all nighter and hit the spoons for breakfast before getting into bed.

"One of my happy places is a pub with a pool table. Some tunes on in the background and a double vodka and in hand

Oh the memories! "

I'd say I'm looking forward to making more but after a few more double vodkas I probably won't remember them

I'm definitely down for a few games of pool! Also we need 80's/90's music on at some point! Looks like we have plenty going, should be a great time!

"I'll book some time off once my work reopens and we'll come down ?? I'll need a tour guide! Only been to London once and that was Wembley!

Happy to guide. Gonna have to figure out what is left of London when this is all over. Lost a few fav haunts, maybe more that didn't make the press. I haven't been to central in over a year. "

Quite a few gone I imagine and if people don’t return to the centre for work or leisure do many more will follow
