how do you make a cup of tea?

serious question, how do you make a cup of tea?

i’ve always been an occasional tea drinker but while its been cold ive definitely upped my intake and i can’t work out if my tastes have changed or if i am just a terrible tea maker

i used to enjoy it well brewed nice and dark with a splash of milk and any brand was fine (currently have tetley) - now i get half way through a cup and think well it kept me warm but it was rotten - what am i doing wrong

noooo tea bag, hot water , give it a stir, squeeze the bag , tea bag in bin, splash of milk, then another stir (biscuits on the side obvs)

I havent had a proper cup of tea since before I had kids! Every time I pop the tea bag and water in, I get called on mom duties an the tea tastes like cold tar..

does brand matter? and have people branched away from dairy in tea like they have with coffee? is there a nicer milk to try?

Where do you want me to start.....

Type of bag.... temp of water.... type of water.... kettle.... can all effect a tea...

I read somewhere that the water for coffee should be at 90-95 degrees, where as water for tea should be at around 100 degrees to get the most out of it... but yeah...

i definitely didnt used to be this fussy

(how weird does that look written down, maybe thats a scottish thing that can only be said aloud)

anyway it used to be bish bash bosh whatever was on offer and it all tasted the same to me

On Holibobs

I use a hot water dispenser instead of a kettle (my favourite kitchen appliance atm) tetley tea bag and sugar in the cup, water in, leave for 30 secs, stir take bag out and loads of milk and stir again

Don't just swirl it round. The tea leaves need to brew. Leave a minute or two then out.

If you add boiling water to tea it burns/scalds the leaf. You're better off boiling the water then leave it to cool for a couple of minutes. Also much better using loose leaf tea as opposed to bags, quality does make a difference.

Teabags in cup, add a dash of milk, boil water and pour into cup, leave to stand for a few minutes, squeeze bags and remove - and drink.

I use supermarket own brand and perfectly happy with how it tastes

Soya milk is alright the unsweetened variety I've weened myself off milk, now I can't drink it as it tastes horrid

ive just done a bit googling ... different posts seem to suggest brewing between 2 minutes and 5 minutes - so i am starting to think its my swish it around and try squeeze the colour out the tea bag in 15 seconds method that might be the problem

crazy when i think about it now since its too hot to drink for the first 10 minutes anyway so whats the rush to have it ready

2 tea bags stand for a few mins squeeze until all tea is mashed out add milk and sugar perfect builders tea

I drink green tea so, boil kettle, tea bag in mug, pour water in, wait about 3-4 minutes, take tea bag out and drink.

i always assumed as long as the water was dark enough it was ready

Don't drink Tea, tried when I was younger, tastes like mucky water. Dont drink hot drinks at all.

Was never a big tea drinker but recently have been drinking it more than normal I find Yorkshire tea better than the other well known brands

but dont you ever have guests that you make tea for? i used to have a boyfriend right enough that didn’t own a kettle because he never drank hot drinks - never mind the fact his visitors did and who wants to wait for a pot of water to boil on the hob for pasta

oh you need to at least try a wee baileys hot chocolate at christmas time with home alone on in the background

Boil water in a pan and add the tea bag leave to simmer so the flavours can brew

Once done remove tea bag add milk leave to simmer few minutes add sweetener of choice

Job done

Boiling Water on Teabag . Stir and leave bag rotating for 3-4 minutes , add a dash of milk and 1 sweetener

Unless its a fine china cup of course, so the milk protects it from the shock of red hot water (so I'm told. Mine comes in a mug!).

I don't mind the brand, I find the same ones taste different depending on the local water. I tend to go for Tetley at home but probably as much out of habit as anything.
