Sad news for motorsort fans that rally legend Hannu Mikkola has passed aged 78 after a long illness.world champio and multiple rally winner he truely was one of the best of the flying finns .

That is sad. Synonymous with the Eatons Yale escort.

An unassuming, quiet spoken man who just got on with the job in a no nonsense way.

His driving style may not have been as flamboyant as some but that’s what made him so quick.

Another bit of my childhood gone.

I remember him well from Top Gear's annual coverage of the RAC rally in the 80s... One of the three Flying Finn's. Very good he was too.
