Anxiety Help

Hey everyone,

I've been suffering with mental health issues for years, ever since I was a kid. I've been through my GP, had CBT and I'm heading for another round of therapy soon if all goes to plan.

But recently I've been really suffering with my anxiety and I have traits of OCD. Does anyone have any advice on how to combat some of the symptoms whilst I'm waiting to be seen by my GP and possibly a therapist? I've tried taking my mind off things by doing stuff I'd normally enjoy, but that just isn't working at the minute... I weirdly prefer talking to a complete stranger about it all, so any help / advice would be appreciated.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section also.

There are a few MH threads that address this. Just do a forum search. Hopefully you'll find something helpful.

I’d recommend using the forum search like Nell suggested. A few people have mentioned books and other online resources within them that might help you.

Could you contact MIND and see if they could recommend anything?

I'll do a search and go through them, thank you. I wasn't too sure if people opened up about MH on here... Looks like I was wrong! Appreciate the info

I'll have to take a look at MIND's website, I've never really been the type to contact any organisation like that... I've always thought someone else needs them 10 times more than I do. But needs must at the minute with everything going on, so thank you x

I'm sure there's room for another one, after all there's a "who has the willy?" thread opened almost weekly.

Great idea to check what great advice has already been given but I get the feeling that the open is looking to talk about it as well.

Haha thank you. That's what I was getting at and some of the reason why I posted, but I obviously don't expect anyone to really talk about it with me or whatever...

"Have you tried CBD products?"

I tried some liquid CBD that you put under your tongue a while back, tasted rancid so I chucked it away. I'm unsure of what the good brands of it are though...

You might want to give yoga a try. Yoga is mind-body practice that combines physical poses, controlled breathing, and meditation / relaxation. It may help reduce stress, etc.

I'll end up falling flat on my arse trying that for the first time, but I've got no doubt you're right about it being helpful for reducing stress and stuff. Might have to give it ago

Joy will help to develop equanimity of mind. Take time to find a good yoga school and simply practice. Alchemical precept - Through repetition the magic will be forced to rise.

Have you ever tried mind fullness there are apps etc to help but it about trying to give your brain some down time. Yoger is good you dont need to fall over or do anything to much even just laying on the floor and just focas on you breathin can help

Good luck with going forward. you reaching out and that is the start to coping with this.

You're doing the right thing by getting professional help & not being afraid to talk. As you know there's no silver bullet & no one size fits all. I go for the fresh air & long strolls in the countryside approach mainly. Its essentially stripping out the noise & making life simple. My fall back is to go for the mindless task approach. Mine is cleaning the car to within an inch of its life ! Good luck.

Yet basic mindfullnes is sort of easy once you know but hard to get to the next level. I can play a game on my phone and the word is gone but laying down and trying to totally clear my mind I find so hard life presher in the modern world is stresfull and causes mental unease.

Thats why my methods are diametrically opposed. I can fill my mind with negativity when I'm walking as I'm giving my mind the necessary space. Thats when I go to something more task orientated where I'm concentrating on something & not giving my brain the opportunity to go off at a tangent. I should say that both are a temporary fix. I've yet to find a permanent solution but I will keep on looking.

Your needs are just as equal as the next person. I too am having CBT and I have been diagnosed with social anxiety. Hang in there and take care xx

Thank you, I did get an emergency GP appointment in the end and I'm on a different drug now. Hopefully I can get some more CBT too, time will tell. Same goes for you x

Look into guided meditation or mindfulness exercises to distract away from the thinking that drives those feelings

Look up a guy called Wim Hof on YouTube, his breathing techniques will sort out anything that isn’t too deep within but the trick is to keep practicing. I found yoga and Tal Chi helpful back in the day but never really carried on with either for more than a few months. I do recognise what triggers my slight anxieties these days and I just try to avoid those places/situations if I don’t feel 100%.

Good luck
