Same for us. We're in a "village" that's technically part of a large town, but we're 6 miles from the actual town and in the countryside ether at the edge. A good compromise

Where we now. In the countryside in an AONB. It's absolutely beautiful, open space and peace and quiet. The local villages have a great community spirit and people are friendly and helpful. Our area is relatively crime free except petty crimes, it's a great place to bring up family.

We can see for miles and miles from any window from our house and have vast areas to walk without seeing another person.

When we fancy a change we can be in a city within 40 minutes and the coast in just over an hour.

What's not to love.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

Every time I move house the settlement gets smaller. Born and lived in a city until I was 16, when my parents decided to move to a market town. I lived there for 5 years until I bought my 1st house in a nearby village. I stayed in that village for 30 years and now live on the edge of a small village/large hamlet (only 40 houses).

Somewhere near here

Countryside, I’m quite the country bumpkin. I grew up the suburbs of a town, moved to a city then out in the middle of nowhere.

I am so so so much happier with my one neighbour surrounded by trees, seeing deers and pheasants in my garden, a sky full of stars and fresh air.

Why would I want concrete and light?

I live on the edge of the city

Out back is open countryside and hills as far as the eye can see

Out front is a main (ish) round

It's a 5 minute drive to the station - 15 minutes on the train, you're in the city centre

Where we live now is almost ideal for us. Close to countryside and beach but also handy for amenities. If we had unlimited money we'd be looking at very rural, possibly not even uk.

See, the thought of really rural scares me

I like being within easy access of a hospital and I also like the thought of neighbours being there if you needed help

I need to feel secure - isolation doesn't provide that

"Where would you prefer to live?"

I live in the countryside it has its plus and minus points

Its quiet and prob the best place to live in a pandemic, its lovely in the summer but colder than everywhere else in winter, you see lots of wildlife you wouldn't otherwise see.

You need some form of transport as there is only 1 bus that goes every hour and the stop is half an hour walk away. It's a right pain sorting out mot's and servicing on my car and motorbike prob bike more than car as bike shop is 13 miles away which involves two bus rides and a 3 mile walk.

And it gets lonely living on your own

And my house is a mile away from the Welsh border

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

I spent most of ma life living in a village in a bungalow that ma Dad built, 10 years of that I was at Boarding School, out in the sticks again. I've since sold up and live about a 2 minute walk from where I was born in Derby City Centre, I've come back to ma roots, so to speak.

Everything that I need is only a couple of minutes walk away, when I lived in Little Eaton, it was peaceful, but the local Co-op shut at 6 o'clock on a Sunday!

Even my small town is too busy for me at times.

Having lived in a city, large town, tiny market town, village, and the middle of nowhere I can say with confidence that I'm an out and out country girl. I live in a small town now and it feels far too built up and social for my liking. I really miss being surrounded by woods and fields. I want bird song and the bleat of sheep, not traffic noises and sirens. If I could afford it I'd sell up and buy myself a small-holding in an instant.

Gosh that sounds like a dream to me.

I've always lived in busy built up areas and my heart genuinely yearns to live somewhere in the countryside.

I had to stop watching Escape to The Country because I would get so upset.

I hope for that lifestyle one day.

Countryside, but with reasonable access to the city.

More importantly, living on the coast. Moved back after 10 years inland and the morning smell of the sea is sooooo nice!

I get that, especially as we've got older and watched my parents increasing need for speedy medical attention. That's where the unlimited money comes in but no amount of money can get you off an island in a storm.

It's a pipe dream anyway Bussy, unlimited money will never be ours .

I like my location- it's classed as a city but it has lots of green space and takes 20 mins to get into central London.

I need to have access to life because I live alone.

If I had a family I would consider somewhere more remote.

Definitely rural...if I could afford it I'd love a smallholding miles from any neighbours. Nature soothes my soul. Although there's a certain little island I've fallen in love with after a few visits...I never realised how relaxing the sight, smell and sound of the sea is.
