I've got mine this afternoon. So glad they are still doing these vital checks.

Just a post incase anyone may be reluctant to book in for theirs .. Go do it

Yes it's uncomfortable, awkward even and actually I already have cramps at the thought but it could save your life.

Good to hear and great to raise the issue

I have mine this afternoon too. After having CIN 3 cells removed a few years ago I won't miss another screening.

Always go for my smear and recently went for my routine breast screening too. Up here we do bowel screening also but heard only 47% of folk send back a poo sample which is crazy as these simple tests save lives.

I had mine back in November and my last few have come back abnormal after having it investigated .I had to have cells removed 3 weeks ago .I can’t understand why some surgeries are still not doing smears as I would say it’s extremely important and essential..

Your GP practice are in the wrong. The NHS have made it very clear that routine screening like cervical screening is to continue. I had mine in the first lockdown (April 2020).

Go to www.nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-screening and there's a yellow box explaining that screening is being done during Covid and it's important you should attend.

Badger your GP or contact your local CCG if you don't get anywhere.

I really hope you do get to get your check! That's crazy they said that!

Speaking to some of my friends I know that some of them & their bubbles are reluctant to do things like this as they think if it's not an emergency they shouldn't bother and burden their GP/Dr.

I had my last one April 2020. I have to go back this April. I never miss my smear tests or mammograms. I'd urge all women to go for their tests,it may feel a bit scary to go but not as scary as leaving it until you get symptoms and end up in hospital with a serious problem.

This is something that I just can't bring myself to do

I have an irrational fear of doctors and have never been for a screening or for anything else since I was a child.

I know it's stupid but I just can't

I know you're right - it's not about going on my own - or particularly the cervical screening.

It's about the doctors in general.

Even typing this out fills me with panic.

I'm getting to an age now where I REALLY need to get over it - but how do you get over something you need to see a Councillor ( type of doctor) for?

I doubt I'll be able to get the Covid jab either.

I can relate to some of this. I have a huge fear of hospitals. Even visiting or an outpatient appointment is at times impossible for me. I don't breathe when I go in. I drive past and litterally my skin crawls. I got really sick a couple of years ago and self discharged.

When I had my sons it was incredibly traumatic.

Therapy was suggested to me but I'm not sure about that either.

Having someone with me helps if I ever need to go and building the relationship with my GP was a huge step forward.

I really hope you manage to get some help for this. I know how debilitating fears can be.

Some GP practices have a wellbeing service, someone who may be a bit of starting point for you to build up to it.

Good luck x

I don’t know really, she just said my next one was in four years and due to my age it would be my last one. Maybe after a certain age you have to ask for them rather than them automatically sending a letter out?

The NHS site says "All women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64 should be invited by letter"

Surely you've got more than 1 left if the upper age is 64? It's every 5yrs after 50, every 3yrs before that.

Apparently people over 65 only go if one of their last smears before 65 was abnormal. So perhaps that's why your mum was invited at 70?

I’ve just googled and it says you can have them up to age 64 (via the letter). Not sure what she was on about then.

.

I’ve got mine next week. My very first smear after I had my daughter I ended up having pre cancerous cells. I went for the colposcopy and they removed the cells there and then with loop excision treatment. It was cin 3 but they got it all and I had more regular check ups afterwards. Back to 3 yearly now.

So so so so important to go.

I always end up having a laugh with the nurse doing the smear as my cervix is titled and she struggles to find it haha x

Had a similar experience, C4, I do laugh with the nurses. One I remember quite loudly saying “where is it?” and then when found it “oh it shouldn’t look like that”, I just said “did you read my notes beforehand, there isn’t much to find”

Got mine booked in for next week. I have to have one annually. It doesn't seem that long ago since my last one to be honest.

Usually I'll get mine done at the GUM clinic as I like to get a thorough screening there 3-4 times a year.
