I’m looking for some positive career change stories.

I work in healthcare and have done for the past 20+ years but have decided it’s just not worth the Aggro and the upset it’s causing me and my current workplace has TOTALLY put me off.

Does anyone have any inspiring stories about changing after such a long time?

I worked in retail and pub management since I left school.

Was bored with it and being constantly nice to people. Applied for a job in probation. Didn't think for a second I'd get it, as no experience at all.

10 years later I love working with offenders and helping them change their lives. As stressful and upsetting as it can be at times, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Menston near Ilkley

I worked in the Hotel and restaurant trade most of my life and switched to running a 40 apartment sheltered housing scheme. My experience in running small hotels and working with people made it a perfect 'shoe in' and I found working with the elderly most rewarding.

From 16 my wife was in branch banking and then later on in telephone banking and then when we moved to France she worked with me until I had to stop last July.

Now she runs a hand holding service helping Brits get set up on their new adventures here and three weeks ago she started doing on-line English conversation with peeps from all over the world so sort of non sexual camming which she is loving very much and as I type this she is on a call with Sergio from Brazil.

Whatever you do op make sure you enjoy it as life’s too short for bollocks.

Did 13 years in the army as a mechanic and wanted out so I could have more stability at home.

Now employed as a multi skilled engineer (kind of have to rely on what I know) different employer and different job, but still enjoy problem solving and hands on.

I'm a hgv/psv mechanic and mot tester of 26 years. Buggered knees back hearing lol I'd love to change career.

I need to find something else I think.

I am thinking really hard about what I want to do next.

I'm going to be 46 in April and hope I haven't left it too late.

I no longer care about having a career as such - I just want to do something that I don't mind doing with people I don't hate

It sounds simple right

I retrained as a gardener in 2014 after working in retail since leaving uni. It's probably the best decision I ever made.

I've changed career direction in quite radical ways at least twice and no regrets. I think age does make a difference in terms of responsibilities but if you have a plan that can work then it shouldn't be an obstacle.

Most of us will be working until our late sixties now so a new job or career in your forties or fifties could still give you many good years if it's an improvement on your current one.
