First thing I do before I reply, is read the sender's profile. If that is generic, it would affect how I replied.

I think this is a big part of it. There's a couple of people on here who I exchange messages with sometimes when I am bored, but most of the time it's hard to be bothered. Not many people are willing to just chat for months - and all we can do right now is chat. I understand why people might feel there is no point.

Im inclined to agree. I do keep a convo going with a few ppl but a small few.

Same here while back, now though I do put bit of effort into the 1st message after reading a profile and using something from it to make them laugh or warrant a reply. Most do reply with not type or not for them right enough

as its easy 20/1 guys for girls here , but have had a good few chats that hopefully will come to a meet when allowed .

I answer all my messages except those who stick their Willie's in my face (erect penis for profile pict ), it's a strange time and to be fair some of the messages and comments just makes me switch off sometimes.. However, I do reply even if it's to say I am busy.

A lot of people just haven’t been in the frame of mind to chat with what’s going on in the world grieving, exhaustion feeling fed up and if you do start chatting can you keep the conversation going for months...

I talk to some on here but I’ve known them for a long time and interacted via the forums. I myself am holding back from initiating conversation even with friends I know and new because as much as I can talk and get to know someone they can dry up...

Maybe.

The issue for me is that I am clinically vulnerable and mostly shielding. And at this point, I can't foresee a time when I will feel safe meeting strangers again. And most people aren't interested in chatting indefinitely.

Even under normal circumstances, when I get a message, I will look at the profile & consider whether it has anything about it that piques my interest. If the profile doesn't appeal then it'll need to be a very good introductory message to get a reply.

At the moment though, because I am not currently meeting & have no plans to do so for a long time, I am being even more picky than normal. I've no desire to make endless idle chit chat, or to provide random strangers with wank fodder, so unless they are a pretty outstanding conversationalist I'm unlikely to really engage.

That depends. I often find that small talk takes too much of a mental toll when I’m struggling already. At times like that I tend to retreat a bit and only talk to good friends.

A guy needs a decent gallery, interesting profile text, and good chat in their opening message to get a response from most ladies or couples here. In our experience most don't manage that so they don't hear back from us.

This for us too We do chat with a few special friends but it's difficult to keep the momentum going with people we don't know so well.
