What was the first record (vinyl) you bought?

Mine was Lola by The Kinks and it cost 6 shillings and 8 denarius in those day there were 240d in a pound so you get 3 singles from Woolworths for a pound. Unfortunately my paper round only paid ten Bob.

The old lady went mad when my older sister told her the song was about Trannys and Cross Dressers!

I always thought that the title of that song was Cinderella Rockafella, but I could be wrong. Something runs in my head that Peter Stringfellow also called two clubs, next door to each other by that, the song title being what was the inspiration.

I was thinking about this, I was only little when we got our first autochange record player, back in the days when Saturday, and Sunday morning was not complete without tuning in radio one with Ed Stewart, and Junior Choice. So my first 45 was probably something like Benny Hill, singing Ernie, and he drove the fastest milk cart in the West. I can remember my first 78 though, bought on a car boot sale for 10p, after I had a moment of madness, and bought a 1920s wind up gramaphone, which I've still got. It was Cliff Richard and The Drifters, yes The Drifters before they became The Shadows, singing Move It, it's still on the turntable, and by today's standards, sounds like it was recorded in chip shop with the deep fat fryers keeping tempo.
