On my social media today on one of the groups that I'm in somebody mention Valentine's Day saying should it be scrapped? So now I am asking you guys and girls that you think it should just be scrapped. I've always said if there is someone out there yeah that you love and you are in a relationship you should show that person how special they are everyday not just one day to get their leg over

I think birthday should definitely be scrapped that way I could pretend that I'm still only 21 and get lucky all the time but then again who am I kidding

I don't mind more excuses to celebrate and have some joy. You can opt in or out, but cancel? Bit extreme. But this reminds me there were some protests in India few years back against it!

Valentines Day is a money making business enjoyed by sheep.

Well well it's amazing with me working in retail the amount of flowers that come in the amount of chocolates that come in the champagne the bottles of wine and even now in some £1 stores they are actually selling sexual toys just for Valentine's Day as a special offer

Nah, some people enjoy it. Nobody is forced to celebrate it. We just do cards.

No.

No one forces anyone to celebrate it...we usually don't.

Ignore it if you don't enjoy it.

Again you don't have to give in to all the consumerism and keep it low budget.

For me to even receive a Valentine's card this year I would have to to beg to get one

I'm an old romantic. I love valentines day. Yup I'm single, but I think romance and love should be shown every day, but valentines gives the extra excuse to be extra romantic.

I love it when I'm in a relationship but I am a ridiculous romantic.

My 10 year old said he was sad because he might not get a card, I replied saying that neither would I so don't worry about it. He said 'no offence mummy but you have been single forever so you are used to it'....out of the mouths of babes eh

No, I like my reduced Valentine's themed food too much on the 15th. Scrapping it is a rubbish idea.

I don't think it should be scrapped, but I agree it's lush making gestures to show love all year round.

It can amplify feelings of loneliness for those not in relationships, but so does Xmas, birthdays, would be anniversaries, seeing any kind of social media where others are plastering their "wonderful life" in people's faces.

Valentines was more painful for me whilst in relationships than not if I'm honest. I'm uber romantic and adore things like flowers or house plants, gestures etc. My abusive ex preferred the pub and my last ex was either away with work or elsewhere.

Relying on other people to make you feel important only lends itself to disappointment.

We don't celebrate it, we don't need a day of the year to let each other know they are loved or fancied. It's important for us that we both feel and know that all the time.

I am not saying to get rid of the occasion though as many people really do enjoy it and I think that's sweet.

La la land

I'm in two minds about it, I'm not an overly romantic person to be honest so I find it a bit ott personally. But I also have friends who adore it.

I find it strange though with little kids the age of 4 are giving cards and gifts in school though. That to me doesn't fit right whatsoever.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I completely agree with you on that. It just feels so wrong.

When I was young my parents told me it was a day for grown ups to give and receive cards and presents (they did that spontaneously at other times as well though).

In Ms daughter school they exchange gifts and cards at 4!!! I wasn't that impressed to be honest. Imagine being the only child in class not to get one? Bad enough as an adult

I don't think it should be scrapped. It is a big money making scheme but to be honest I like an excuse to have a little bit of an extra special night.

I let my partner know every single day that I love him, but a day dedicated to making a big deal out of it isn't too bad in my opinion.

I was just thinking, does it build character getting left out or create insecurity?

I think it will be very rare on the occasion it builds character.

To me that the girls are also learning that their worth is measured by boys fancying them which is mind boggling

I think it's appalling for both those reasons. But the last one... shows both boys and girls that they're measured by their appeal.

Exactly wrong at the age of 4. Though the boys think they'll catch some disease if they kiss a girl. I'm happy enough with them thinking that at the moment
