In my teens I had a pen pal

I did some advert in , if I remember rightly, smash hits and got a few replies.

Tall, gorgeous Irishman, who I wrote to for about two years.

This is what it’s come to - remembering pen pals from yonks ago

Seriously, no thanks - I couldn’t even remember where he was from, but I do recall he liked to draw pictures in his letters

Funny what comes back to you when you feel a bit melancholy

Ah I just recently found my old pen pals letters, she was French and I went and stayed with her twice in my teens

I hadn't realised I had,found Christmas cards the lot. Have an apple pendant her and her family got me on my second visit which I've misplaced or lost though

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

Wow, this thread jogged my memory of my school pen pal. She was from Ulm, in Germany, and was called Gerda. She sent me a photo and was gorgeous. She also sent me a cassette of her favourite band. I played that cassette until it could no longer be played.

The band was called Blutgruppe. I've just Googled them and found the album she sent me.

I often wonder what became of her.

My first girlfriend started off as a penpal

Well, she started off as being just my friends sister really, but when I went to Uni, she said send me your address, I'll write to you

Let's just say it didn't take long before she went full on saucy with them letters
