I’ve googled around. But I’m still a bit confused so I’m hoping that someone here may have an answer

I would like to paint my lounge (I have new furniture arriving soon and it’s the ideal time to do it). Can I go to the diy store and buy paint etc? As I live in Devon my nearest diy store is a 50 mile round trip. I know diy stores are open, but is wanting to paint the lounge a valid reason for going? Yes I could order online but a) it’s more expensive and b) I haven’t really settled on a colour.

I’ve checked. I can walk around the store. 50miles round trip is nothing in Devon (my nearest hospital is a 60 mile round trip)

I think it's perfectly acceptable however I did read something somewhere recently about it has to contain one item that is considered essential but I'm not quite sure what that means. That probably wasn't very helpful thinking about it.

Depends where you live in London I could go 5 minutes down the road and get almost everything I need but in Devon probably not.

I went to Lidl a few weeks ago to get bread, milk and sausages and came back with an electric fan, Fluffy blanket and a toilet seat.

You can order paint charts, a lot are free and ordering your paint online is just the same price as in store plus a small delivery free usually. A 50 mile trip just for paint does seem a ball ache if you could avoid it xx

I did something similar and bought a portable toilet for 29.99 I mean I couldn’t not at that price! In my defence I do/did love camping pre Covid.

True but the OP did specify paint which I’d struggle to see as essential. And of course the police are applying the law differently in different areas.

Well in this life you live and learn and it would be a poor man indeed that didn’t consider all sides to a discussion before forming an opinion. That’s why I asked

In light of what you have said chap, I have decided NOT to go. Paint isn’t essential and I can order online. I’ve played by the Covid rules since the start and it seems silly to break them now for a spot of paint.

I appreciate everyone’s contribution to this thread. It’s why I like the forums.

And because of the last point I will not go. Not being able to lick strangers has and always will be (should I have put an Oxford comma in there? Answers on a postcard)) a deal breaker.
