"I've seen a few forum posts recently about people suffering at the moment with their mental health. I posted this on one of them but thought it would be helpful to share to others who might need it right now. Sorry to hear your struggling. Everyone's waiting lists are getting longer so unfortunately the waiting times are too. However, if you feel like you need to be seen now go back to your GP or call 111 and request to be seen by the crisis team. If you feel like you can manage without seeing someone, go to Minds website, they have some great coping methods. In terms of daily help, you can do two things; do something creative and do some form of exercise. Doing one of these two things can benefit your mental health in a big way. Finally, keep a journal, but keep two. One can be a place to put down your feelings/frustrations so they aren't taking over your thoughts. The second keep it positive, write down something good that happened that day and something you are grateful for. Its a way of acknowledging the good things that we all miss sometimes. Most importantly, keep talking to people, never suffer alone. Reach out to anyone; family, friends, helplines, NHS services and even forums like this. Hope this helps in anyway and take care of yourself. The world's a scary place right now but we can get through this together ![]() ![]()

"I've got to a point where my emotions have shut down. It's not the first time,I was told it's 'emotional overload'. I still care about people but otherwise..... These threads are still a great support. Thank you ![]() I totally get it, I got to that point too. Once that breaking point has been reached we can shut ourselves down emotionally. I promise you things do get better with a little help from looking after ourself and accepting help from others. My inbox is always open if you need anyone but please keep talking to people. Love and hugs to you ![]()

These threads are still a great support. Thank you ![]() ![]() I can never decide which analogy works best, but the fact is they both work You cannot pour from an empty cup, you have to fill your own first Or You have to put your own oxygen mask on first, otherwise you die and you can’t help anyone else.

"I have to say, I really detest that phrase. I'm not ok and it's not ok. In order for me to exercise, start a project, write a journal (none of which I actually enjoy) I need to have the motivation and good mental health to do it and the thought of forcing myself to do something in the hope of it improving my state of mind, makes me want to hide from everything. Singing in a choir, camping with my grandchildren or simply being in the same room as them, drinking coffee and watching the world go by, cooking in a field with friends are all the things that would make my heart sing." It's just a little advice that I found has helped me. Of course it's not going to work for everyone and that's okay. We can't do the things that make us truely happy right now but we can look after ourselves in the meantime.

We can't do the things that make us truely happy right now but we can look after ourselves in the meantime." How? By doing what? Looking after oneself requires a mental state that I've not been in for a while and there are plenty just like me. I go to work, feed myself and keep myself clean because that's all I'm mentally capable of and I have no choice. I'm utterly fucking miserable and really suffering with no hope in sight. I've given up planning anything because it's always snatched away from me. My life is just barely existence and talking about it, even if I were capable, achieves absolutely nothing. Not being happy because our choices are limited and suffering from a mental health condition are two vastly different things. I know you mean well, I really do,but it's like being slapped every time I hear that phrase. True poor mental health is way beyond going for a walk, having a bubble bath, doing your nails and face timing a loved one.

I understand mental health conditions more than you will ever know and im just about holding on myself somedays. There isn't a simple solution, it takes time and it took ever bit of strength I had to claw myself out of the hole I was in. There's so many people that feel ashamed or are scared to admit they are struggling, that's what I mean by the phrase.. it's about letting people know its ok to break down, its ok to feel sad and its ok to tell people how you feel. I hope you get the help you need, I really do ![]()
