"I seem to think orgasms can induce labour but I think during would be "

It’s used as an induction of labour due to the release of oxytocin, which caused muscle contraction, and semen contains prostaglandins that causes uterine contractions. Which is the same thing used for induction of labour, so orgasm + semen= Labour (hopefully!)

I have zero personal experience of childbirth thankfully.

But I did see a programme about sexual climax through childbirth a few years ago and I believe it to be true. A small percentage I presume experience such a thing

We tried this but can safely say it didn’t work..... our youngest decided to arrive when she was ready(way later than when we were expecting her to arrive) And as far as orgasm question; no bloody way!! Whoever said that was lying, it’s the most intense and unreal pain I’ve ever felt.

Haha again it depends on the Bishops score, if it’s under 5 the spontaneous rupture of membranes is unlikely. So people can try all sorts to help induce labour. It’s a really interesting topic I find

Hahaha I think the person who invented it was called Dr Bishop...it basically a scoring system to see how likely a natural delivery was...although I think scale is more accurate!

It is actually true that some women may experience contractions similar to orgasms during birth.. Mostly at the stage of pushing or just before.. in the transition phase. There is increased blood flow and a surge of endorphins, adrenaline and oxytocin which can induce euphoria and indeed feelings like arousal and maybe even orgasm.

Many couples use sex, kissing, stroking and nipple stimulation to induce Labour and also during labour to help the process along. When women release oxytocin it can help to soften muscles, sooth pain and dilate the cervix.

I can assure you it is very different to a usual sexual scenario with everything else that is going on... But I definitely experienced euphoria and altered States during birth. I had no painkillers for both my children so was naturally high and bonkers!

No but I met someone who did. There is a literature from believers.

If you read about midwife Ina May Gaskin she would always encourage partners in birth to kiss cuddle and stimulate nipples of the mother to help release oxytocin and also as as a way of dealing with urges/contractions. There is a lady whose name I forgot now who is a huge advocate of Orgasmic birth. I will find it.

That’s really interesting...was the feeling of euphoria at the end of childbirth? There’s some really interesting brain chemistry that happens just after birth to do with oxytocin and stuff that allows the mother to bond, it’s amazing

Not what the threads about but still...

I found it incredibly arousing during the build up to my wife giving birth and was very embarrassing but she found me hilarious and said it helped relax her.

It’s the noises she was making and the way her body moved.

That soon dissolved as soon as it got serious and I ended up a blubbering mess.

It was a storyline in Greys too yes - recent binge watch of mine

One of the gynae docs was suggesting it as a method of pain relief, most of the mothers looked at her like she was mad ... but it is a real thing too as you posted x

I would say I had a few moments of euphoria throughout. For me at times it was a very sensual experience and my body was on fire in a very primal state. You're right.. We are mammals after all and especially when left as much as possible to let what our innate senses naturally do it's a very special and amazing process. It wasn't bloody easy but I'd do it again if I could. The birth bit anyway.. No more babies for me though I'm done

This is lovely to read! Watching your woman in her rocking, moaning natural state bringing your baby into the world is fucking awesome! I know my partner at the time felt the same.. Until the overwhelm hits! Its a massive experience to share and witness and brings couples super close and in awe.

It's not stupid at all OP. It can happen in certain conditions. I gave birth my second and third child in a water birthing pool at home with the appropriate medical assistance. When the woman is relaxed and fully conscious of her body it truly can happen. These a lot of stigmas about homebirthing and it's not for everyone. But its definetely an experience I would recomend to those with the previous research

Sadly all my boys were born in hospital. My hospital phobia probably made it impossible to relax enough to make childbirth the magical and wonderful experience I hoped it would be.

"It's not stupid at all OP.

Sadly they were born in hospital? What’s sad? You have your babies and they are healthy...count your blessings

I know I'm lucky to have healthy children and I'm very thankful for the midwifes etc in hospital. However, there is some sadness for me because its not the birth I wanted to have. I had pre eclampsia. Home birthing just wasn't an option.

Yes.

I won't bore people with details here but I had my first son when I was 17 and the whole hospital experience was horrific. My wishes completely disregarded.

When I had my 2nd I was too risky.

Although with my third I was better, it was still ruled out because of my 2nd.

6% experienced orgasmic births apparently according to statistics in 2016

"

I checked the link. It's based on a survey. The first question I ask when presented with survey results is, "Who funded the survey? What was asked and how?". This survey was commissioned by the 'scientists' at ChannelMum. A parenting website. I don't know the questions they asked for this survey. That info isn't published.

But it's certainly possible that they've included women who felt euphoria akin to an orgasm as orgasmic. It's also possible they've included sarcastic responses as positive ones. "Painful? No, it was like having multiple orgasms after half a bottle of Tia Maria. Twat"

Just saying, never trust surveys that don't tell you what was asked and how it was assessed

Science or clickbait? You decide...

I had my first baby in the hospital and it wasn't too bad but I would have loved to have the same experience I had with my second and third. My husband was there to help me go through it he received both babies in his hands and cut the umbilical. We recorded the whole thing for them when they grow a bit more. My eldest daughter saw everything too. the babies arrived in the warmth of our home, safe and healthy. That's what I call a humanized birth. Nothing against hospitals by the way. Just a personal decision when everything was in favour for it.

It's ok to grieve the kind of birth you didn't get. And I'm sorry that you had horrific experiences. No woman should go through this x

"This may be a stupid or crass question, but have any ladies on here experienced an orgasm during childbirth ? "

Not a stupid question OP. It does occasionally happen, usually as the baby's head puts pressure on the G spot as it is crowning.

Orgasmic childbirth — aka a birth-gasm — is when a woman has an orgasm while she's in labour. And even though it's a relatively rare phenomenon (one study suggests it occurs in just 0.3 percent of women), it's a legit possible one.2 Jun 2019

Lots of people seem outraged by this but the OP is absolutely right.

There is a birth technique called orgasmic birthing.

It was fairly niche until recently but has become a quite popular way of giving birth and you can even hire coaches to guide you through this.

A little bit of research will show you he is not being outrageous it really is a thing and it's a growing (for one for the better word) craze.

Last week they were talking about it on loose women it was actually really interesting.

For you sceptics out there this is a link to what they talked about on loose women and I didn't really understand it so i looked it up because I didn't really understand it at it really is a thing.

I don't think the concept of orgasmic birthing is literally about having an orgasm when you're giving birth

It's not a stupid question at all, it's a well documented though fairly rare phenomenon and it's a shame so many have chosen to belittle you for an honest question.

Orgasmic birthing and obstetrical orgasm are 2 different things. One is a birthing technique, the other is a spontaneous reaction. Both are real.

"This may be a stupid or crass question, but have any ladies on here experienced an orgasm during childbirth ? "

I was a Midwife for 25 years and this came up in conversation a couple of times.

Some women have likened some aspects of uninterrupted, supported, naturally advancing birth to the high of an orgasm but nobody had ever admitted to having one.

Conversely, three women in my career absolutely refused to breastfeed because they were convinced that their nipples would need to be poked with needles to get the milk out.

Ok on baby 3 I didn’t orgasm during birth, but I came close as baby was crowning...it was pretty intense and wouldn’t have taken much to push me over the edge...it felt amazing ....it was the 3 days in intensive care that wasn’t so good
