"Big well done to anyone who, like me, completed dry January. Not sure why I put myself through it in this is all years, but apparently I'm a mosochist lol Who else tried it? Did you succeed? Or when did you fail? " You go girl..

"Big well done to anyone who, like me, completed dry January. Not sure why I put myself through it in this is all years, but apparently I'm a mosochist lol Who else tried it? Did you succeed? Or when did you fail? " I dont get it actually. If you drink to much then what difference does changing your habit for 1 month a year. If you are within accepted limits of drinking alcohol, why the need to deprive yourself of enjoying a tipple for a month. Like I say , makes no sense to me.

I have a healthy relationship with alcohol, but I tend to drink everyday at Christmas so dry January just gives my liver a bit of a break, plus it helps with the January diet!

"Well done! How do you feel having gone a month without? Do you crave some of it again or can you take it or leave it? I don't drink but noticed if I give something up for a while, I get the craving initially but it passed after a while " It was hard the first weekend, especially with the lockdown announcement. But now it's easy. I could take it or leave it, but I'm sure I'll take it again at some point lol

"I am not a drinker anyway, so thought I'd do dry january, but then work went crazy and i felt under so much stress and working ridiculous hours that i went the opposite way and became a daily drinker Things are a bit better now so dry february is a distinct possibility " Glad to hear things are work are getting better!

First time I read this reply I thought fair enough , good answer . Then I re read it . If you over indulge at Xmas thats a problem , especially when you know it damages your liver. Then the diet part , why just January. Not trying to be a doom and gloom but your answer confirms my original point.

And as for dieting, I like to shift the couple of pounds I gain every year at Christmas so they don't accumulate. Do you not eat/drink a little extra at Christmas?? I thought it was fairly standard.

Yes but i don't justify it by depriving myself of it completely for a month. That to me would mean I've done something wrong and need punishment for it. By the way, each to their own and as long as it makes you feel happy then thats all that matters.

It's just that I'm strict with myself most of the year, and then relax and enjoy myself in December. So I guess January is just the start of being strict again and I like to kick start that with dry January. It's just my thing. Others do it too, for their own reasons.

Or when did you fail? " Well done ! think it’s a good idea at any time to prove to yourself you can abstain if you want or need to, especially during lockdown. I hardly drank this Christmas with the lack of socialising but in the past I’ve had two or three months without drinking.

"Twas easy tbh. I used to drink probably 150 units a week for about 20 years after being tee total up to the age of 24. I stopped totally when I moved abroad. Mainly because I couldnt afford it. But barely touch a drop now. And I dont miss it at all. J " How many bottles of wine is 150 units? I'm guessing a lot?

We say every year we will try it but fail after a few days lol(one year we did two weeks) This year we did 3 days then lockdown and schools closing was announced so we decided to drink our way through it but I do admire anyone who does it!! Might do a dry April or something instead... Freya x

Probably I will wait with my first drink until next weekend, it will be a busy week and I like to enjoy it without pressure.
