Sexuality questioned at work and the comeback

Hi all. Just recalling a story from a previous job. I was very quiet and did not give much away about my personal life. I did get a few negative comments about it. One of the women arranged for a brochure of men posing in underwear to be left on my desk, which was done. She visited the department not long after and had a chat with someone. As she was about to leave, she stated "I'm glad I got that off my chest." I then exclaimed "I've got something for your chest, you will have to rinse it off though!". She marched away and nothing more was said. So gents, next time someone questions your sexuality, just say you want to come on their tits.

OP what you experienced was not appropriate conduct for the workplace and could have been reported to HR. You shouldn't have been made to feel like that.

I most certainly wouldn't recommend to others the course of action you took as I feel you were fortunate to not be reported to HR yourself for inappropriate conduct.

I have received sexually inappropriate comments at work, at first I let them go as banter but I soon found inner strength to stop it without any negative repercussions for myself and before I escalated it to HR.

As a man you got to be so carefully with women in the work place.

There flirt only on their terms and you could end up in a disciplinary hearing just for being friendly.

And you'll see that same women having no problems being mucky with other staff.

You must be very careful.

On a similar vein OP; when workplace banter starts to get out of hand, I’ve often found “Are you actually gay, or do you just like the look?” shuts up the mouthy ones......

Everyone needs to be respectful. A disciplinary is not going to come from being friendly. Its going to come from being unprofessional, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, religion or anything else.

So yes be careful, and be respectful.

Ive always had my sexuality questioned in the workplace,i guess its because i have always been single,one girl in the office was always asking me if i was coming out etc,to be honest i found it a turn-on.

I wasn't aware we still used gay as an insult, thought homophobic slurs were outdated now
