its more about mimicry I think, if ur going into the serious side of syntax etc, u'd find that it wouldnt be classed as intelligent language, like that of whales and dolphins

Mine talk .. but they choose what they say..Its more a case of picking up phrases

Nursery rhymes they pretty bright.

The worst the boy says is Gobby chops cos he talks so much..he didnt get that from me.

I dont believe they mimic .. they say things with perfect timeing even saying bless you as you sneeze and bad cough if you cough..I had them 20 years their vocabulary is large. I adore them..

I think unlike humans parrots are born with an extensive vocabulary and a wicked sense of humour which they use to entice gullible humans to waste hours and hours repeating inane phrases at them hoping to get some kind of response…

"Or is it all a myth? "

If you have a parrot and you don't teach it to say, "Help, they've turned me into a parrot", you are wasting everybody's time.

I totally agree, my ex and I had a variety of large birds including cockatoos, aftrican greys, amazons, a galah and 3 macaws. The macaws, 2 amazons and 3 greys could all talk and lived in huge cages in my (then) enormous kitchen. The racket I would walk into when I came in from work was awful, they'd all be shouting at each other across the room until I walked through the kitchen door, they would all stop shouting and in harmony would all say "hello mum", it used to make my heart melt. There was one cheeky beggar though, he would sit talking to us whilst I was trying to talk to the OH and cook the tea, one of us would end up turning to him and saying "shut up Jacko" to which he would reply "shut up yourself" then sit there chuckling to himself.
