From the land of haribos.

As you know. I am into fitness and I like to diet and to diet in a calorie deficit is easier if you are eating low calorie dence foods so that you can eat more, rather than less, so here is some of that changes that I do.

I swap foods and portion sizes, like instead of greek yogurt I have kefir which have 100 calories less and I dont eat so much meat as it have alot of calories, instead I have chicken. I sometimes have those foods but I dont have it so often, another thing I do is to eat more crispy rye bread than baguettes.

What low calorie foods do you like to eat?

I don’t eat bread - love it but I steer clear

Aldi do these Chia & Oat crispbread thingies that are immense with marmite though

I exercise more, I couldn't ( well, could, just don't want to) eat less. There's few joys in life atm, so I'm keeping my snacky snacks

Air popped popcorn is satisfying though... and turkey is lower fat than chicken.

I'm a eat everything is moderation kinda girl, I'd rather do a few extra burpees

I dont agree with you premise. I would much rather eat chicken than celery, for example.

Protein rich foods are more filling or satisfying.

A handful of nuts, containing good fats, rather than an apple, containing fructose, which the body recognises as a sugar, is another example.

i totally agree with testarosa above - generally all the fat free or low fat food i have tried has very little natural taste or fills me up.

OP - interested as to how much you cut below your maintenance calorie level to avoid stalling/plateau? looks like you are very fit and ripped from your main pic there so i guess exercise fits in there too?

Ye it can be hard as well and I also like potatoes. I usually just have 4 or 5 baby potatoes to a meal which equals to about 170g. I like to eat it with the skin on, but yes the roast ones are tasty too

I eat clean, have small portion sizes, I’m veggie but I rarely eat of the veggie substitutes, because they seem to be full of crap.

I do eat potatoes, but very little wheat, I usually have rice cakes instead.

I also allow myself a chocolate treat every day (far too much atm!

Roasted chicken without adding any fat, eat sweet potatoes instead of ordinary potatoes (lovely cooked in their skins and then peeled), no fat or sugar Skyr yoghurt, sweet and sour sliced gherkins, sugar free jelly, high protein no sugar crème fraîche, grilled salmon, matzoh crackers, steamed fish, whole meal sour dough bread.

Sounds bloody awful, the only thing I weight up is whether it’s worth that much effort to have a sculpted body and quite frankly it’s not, most women like soft edges and something to hold on to anyway, so I basically eat what I like and not think about it, I couldn’t think of anything worse than eating low fat and weighting everything, life’s too short, at this time of year and with the current global problems I need comfort food, I need something to look forward to, I don’t want to be eating lettuce and making myself miserable, I want a big bowl of warmth and hope.

What I mean is that it can take over peoples lives, always counting and being cautious etc

As long as I burn more than I eat then I'm happy

But yeah, If you're aware of what you eat then It's pretty simple

If I'm eating crackers instead of bread they need to be interesting ones, seeded or salt & black pepper, something like that. Can't stand plain rice crackers, it's like eating polystyrene...

(She/ her) in Sensualityland

Awareness of the effect carbs, protein and fats have on our bodies (good balance is essential) has grown enormously which is a good thing.

For me personally low fat in itself is not great as it leaves me hungry, as does high carbs. I try and do my macros rather than count the calories, and I know what I need to do when I overindulged (quite a few times in Lockdown)

Also, I try to avoid too much of anything that is highly processed but tend to get food in its most natural form. But there are days when wine, cheese and chocolate miraculously find their way into my mouth.

All this sweet potatoes and no carbs, if it works for you then go for it but, if you like potatoes then eat them just don’t over indulge, a sweet potato for example has more calories than a normal potato they just have more fibre and vitamins per gram. If I’m slimming I eat 40% protein 40%carbs and 20% fats but cut the calories so I’m still eating foods I enjoy 2000 calories say. If I’m bulking I do exactly the same but 3000cals and the occasional fast food. This way when I’m dieting I can still eat foods I enjoy and if you enjoy it your more likely to stick to it. Just my ten pence worth. Everyone’s different I hate dieting and this works for me. My fitness pal is a good app to track and very easy to follow once you have tracked for a couple of weeks

Ty and yes I am very fit. I do lots of cardio everyday. I just go below about 300 calories and the rest of the deficit is made up with the cardio and yes lots of exercise too. I am training at home with heavy sand and doing a full body workout 3 times a week. I am usually maingaining year round and as a rule of thumb when you cant see your abs lower the calories so that gives me a visual guide rather than to say this certain amount of time to diet for

Swap to skimmed milk, lower fat mayo and butter, plenty of veg, lean cuts of meat (with the exception of steak.....a man has his limits), use skinny brand Syrup/sauces, lower carb wraps etc etc. I've found a place that does smart smarties.....only 86 cal for the tube and you get your chocolate fix.

Just small changes that are almost unnoticeable, but add up over time.

I will have to look out for smart Smarties . I use BOB milk - skimmed but tastes just like semi skimmed and you can drink it without tasting any difference as they add extra protein.

I have a bad diet. You see if I eat the low calorie food my mind is still on the mars bar and I try and eat round it. By this I mean I eat more than I should trying to forget about the sweetie. If I just have the sweetie, my bran flakes and apple won't enter my mind. So yes. When you see all you can eat compared to the calories of a mars bar. Big difference but you are stretching your stomach eating all that, the more you eat the hungrier you are. If you are struggling with your weight, watch that fat v thin diet on TV. Thin person usually just sweeties and drinks. It works. Might not be good for you but....

I don't like processed low fat food.

I'd rather have a smaller portion of something tasty.

I lost 2 stone this year with small changes I try and stick to every day.

I walk 15000 steps every day.

No alcohol on week days.

I dont buy butter anymore

I eat mainly wholefoods and cook from scratch - no takeaways.

I try to eat protein at every meal and definitely don't cut carbs - I find that torture!

I've still got 2 and a half stone to my goal - but I'm not in a rush and there's nowhere to go anyway

My main problem is cheese

I eat too much of it and can't give it up!

Yes it is, having haribos is a must. I allow myself about 20 gummy bears a day and on a training day I have 10 of them as a post workout snack, in total for 20 of them is 162 calories

I have a major sweet tooth and struggle with binge eating so if I am calorie counting I usually make sure I've got things like iced gems, mini bags of Haribo, mini icecream lollies, popcorn, mini bags of cookies etc in as they're all under 100 calories but hit the spot if I need something sweet that won't bring my calories too high.

To be fair, that's a very good way to go if you want to slowly wean yourself off certain foods. Soon, you can start swapping even one of those small bags for an apple or a banana and that's even more progress.

I know that doing a complete 180 on your diet only leads to failure because your body is craving what you had before. Keep going and good luck!

At the moment increasing my exercise is more appealing than cutting back too much on food. I’m having to rest my foot this week and noticing it...

But anyway, low calorie foods- halo top ice cream. Or a new low calorie one from Aldi which I think is better than Halo Top.

"I have a major sweet tooth and struggle with binge eating so if I am calorie counting I usually make sure I've got things like iced gems, mini bags of Haribo, mini icecream lollies, popcorn, mini bags of cookies etc in as they're all under 100 calories but hit the spot if I need something sweet that won't bring my calories too high.

Not sure if this was meant to be funny, but I proper laughed at this.

I hate to make this awkward but it wasn't meant to be funny! I'm deadly serious. I struggle with binge eating and can not eat well without a treat. "

My sincere apologies, it was a real belly laugh too.

"Swap to skimmed milk, lower fat mayo and butter, plenty of veg, lean cuts of meat (with the exception of steak.....a man has his limits), use skinny brand Syrup/sauces, lower carb wraps etc etc. I've found a place that does smart smarties.....only 86 cal for the tube and you get your chocolate fix.

Just small changes that are almost unnoticeable, but add up over time. "

I’d have to disagree with this. Quite often (not always) low fat/cal food is full of sugar instead. Eat normal good, but smaller portions. It tastes better, and is better.

I lost weight when I became veggie too.

With you on the smarties though

From the land of haribos.

"I exercise more, I couldn't ( well, could, just don't want to) eat less. There's few joys in life atm, so I'm keeping my snacky snacks

Air popped popcorn is satisfying though... and turkey is lower fat than chicken.

I'm a eat everything is moderation kinda girl, I'd rather do a few extra burpees That is a good way of doing it too on, my diet isnt so strict in that sense either. I follow flexible dieting which allows me to have some treats too like haribos

Haribos=life so completely understandable! Yes it is, having haribos is a must. I allow myself about 20 gummy bears a day and on a training day I have 10 of them as a post workout snack, in total for 20 of them is 162 calories

I love a Drumstick Squashie "

Those are good and tasty too

Tip I had was to put a curly wurly , chomp, fudge in the freezer. It's supposed to slow you down so you enjoy it more. I was like a cow chewing a turnip! My jaw appeared to be up for the challenge.

So I’ve gone back to keto....so plenty of rich foods and generally smaller portions. I’m rarely hungry and no cravings after day 3....for me this has previously worked better than any other way of eating... that paired with weight training with what I have at home and a ballet barre workout is slowly getting me back in shape

Yes exactly! I sometimes find I've sat there and ate 600 calories in a big bag of chocolate buttons, so by buying the mini packets I don't have the option of just opening up a big bag and letting the binge take over. I sometimes fail and maybe eat too many but it definitely helps having smaller bags.

And yes you're so right. I honestly can not eat clean, I need sugar or I just go crazy. I lost about four stone years ago and I still had treats, just in moderation.

Thank you!

"At the moment increasing my exercise is more appealing than cutting back too much on food. I’m having to rest my foot this week and noticing it...

But anyway, low calorie foods- halo top ice cream. Or a new low calorie one from Aldi which I think is better than Halo Top. "

Yes, that is also a good way to do it, as you dont want to cut calories too much either
