Do you ever look at another career and think ooo if I had my time again I’d like to Persue that route rather than what you do now ....?

I often watch Brit cops and road wars and think I’d like to have been a police officer

What would you like to do ?

Or do you have your dream job ?

Ha! I looked at your profile op as i assumed you were about to retire the way you phrased the question!!! I've changed my career path many times, each time to suit my ideal and life at the time. I don't have a dream job because for me working is a means to an end. So I enjoy what I do it's easy money and fits my life perfectly. It allows me to have a life outside of work and that's way more important to me.

Just out of curiosity op if you really want to go into the police force what's stopping you? You're only 28!!

I’m 48 and still didn’t know what I want to do. I have been working in IT 90% of my working life and it’s the people interaction that I really enjoy.

OP remember being a police officer comes with plenty of ups and downs.

My advise is to chase happiness before anything else.

.

If I died and had the opportunity to endlessly rerun my life, I'd rerun everyone of them differently. I want to experience what success, failure, joy, sadness, security or fallibility feels like for the good or the bad. I'd be a billionaire and a bum. I'd want to try female, male, trans and other. I'd want to try different colours, creeds and races to see what it's like. The shame is you only ever experience one life first hand and you do the best you can with that one and learn bits from everyone else's.

No I’m not kidding

I had all intentions of becoming a golf professional and teaching kids as I left school but unfortunately had a brain tumour that left me paralysed for a long period of time I’m fully fit and redirected my career I’m a PT and looking at another opportunity to incorporate traveling the world while doing so

I’m not saying police is a dream job the one I’m working to is but the police looks exciting

I pursued my dream job, which turned into a bit of a nightmare, then drifted into something else where I stayed for many years. More by luck than judgement within that I did and experienced things I'd never even imagined.

After years of working for the big 3 in our industry, We finally decided "you know what" we can do a better job of this.

Bit the bullet and bought a small competitors company and transformed it into what we have today.

It has its highs and lows but, there really is nothing like being your own boss.

Just pursue all the things I actually want to do - none of them will give me a paycheck unfortunately

Well I used to think about how I should of pursued the career I always wanted, joining the Navy......... but things happen for a reason and had I gone into the Navy, I’d probably not met my late wife.

So while things might look better on the other side of the fence, I’m more than happy with how my life has turned out, things happen for a reason.

I need to change at some point soon but it's not that easy.

There are loads of things I'd like to try if I could start again. I imagine somewhere in a few of those alternate time lines they'd be eyeing up my job (more or less) though so I try and not dwell on it.

I loved history at school and would've loved to have persued something in that field but I didn't know what I could do as a career in that subject.

In the end, I went into IT because it was safe, and while it's a very good career with many different avenues, I do wonder what might have been had I been braver...

I chose the career that a couple have mentioned... 10 years later and I am still in the job but currently setting up my own business doing something I love. I imagine it will be another 6-12 months until I leave, but it is such a relief that soon I will work from home and not have to go to work wondering if I will make it home again and dealing with people who despise you and the things you uphold.

I'm approaching retiring in May, having been made redundant last November with 47 years in work, the majority of that being in Hotel Management.

Would I do it all again? A definite NO!

Instead, my dream career would be in Music, as a backing singer for big-name artistes, bands and so on.
