Couldn’t pick a top three but one that is missing from this list so far is Sheila E (Prince’s drummer for a few years).

The assumption most are making is that to be a best drummer you need to be in a Rock band and be a white male.

Saying that also not sure I saw Brian Downey Thin Lizzy) on the lists?

I fell for that one for years, then had a conversation with an amazing professional drummer, who idolised Ringo.

He sat me down and took me through a load of Ringo’s drum patterns. Changed my outlook. Who was I to argue.

There’s a YouTube of people praising Ringo’s drumming fulsomely - those people include Dave Grohl, Jim Keltner, Questlove and Stewart Copeland.

They know a thing or two - Ringo is incredible.

Always wanted to learn the drums as a kid. For me though, as an avowed Maiden fan, Nicko McBrain is the man.

A friend explained to me how he is unique in using his drumsticks the other way round and also the fact that his foot pedal work is a sight to behold.

I've seen Dave Grohl come up, I'm sure he's a great drummer but I tend to think of him simply as rock and roll royalty.

I'm afraid I don't know enough about drumming to really contribute any other names. Just Nicko for me.

Keith Moon though probably warrants an honorary mention just for being an absolute maniac

Geek time but...

Sheila E was not in The Revolution that was Bobby Z.

Sheila E played drums for Prince in his touring band for Sign of the Times (87) and Lovesexy (88).

A truly excellent drummer and percussionist.

Seems like a list of most popular drummers, the one name that stands out is buddy rich though.

If you want to look up drummers that actually push forward and change people’s view of what’s actually possible to achieve behind a drum kit you need to watch people such as Tomas haake, evgeny novikov or Aaron kitcher
