Obviously I'm a BBW or whatever label you may care to use. Although I never will want to lose all of my size I have considered looking into gastric bands. Anyone who has had experience of having one or delving into the details please can you share your thoughts. xxx

I haven’t had one but a good friend has. You will need to follow a strict diet pre-op and a limited, small portion diet post-op. It’s very much about changing your eating habits or you will make yourself ill. If she over eats she’s very uncomfortable. And her weight didn’t fall off as easily as she’d hoped as she still ate high calorie foods just in smaller portions but quite regularly. It’s definitely not a quick fix.

My wife had this procedure a year ago in Turkey It cost £3000 And she has lost over 50kgs

She is sexier and more confident in herself now .

She was size 22 - 24 and is now 14 = 16.

It was her choice to have it done. I loved her the way she was.

But it is not an easy option.

Of couse she eats less now and takes a B12 tablet (not injection)

It is not irreversable.(that is Gastric By-pass) a totally different procedure.

I would suggest getting qualifed advice and not listening to FAB physicians

Not totally correct

Leads to b12 injection. Only if your have bypass not sleeve.

Limited food intake. True, but that is the idea!

And irreversible. True

Leaving deflated body weight in the long run. Depends how much you have to lose, and your starting point, it does not effect everyone like this

Am going through the process at the moment (male) should have been done early Jan but covid got in the way, I am having the sleeve done on NHS, different areas have different criteria most will want you to go through stages. The Main 2 are 3 and 4. 3 is under a Dietician, 4 is under a multiple discipline team, but is basically you are going under the knife.

When you get under stage 3 it's usually 9-18 months before referral and then upto a year until surgery.

As a rule NHS don't like doing bands anymore, first preference is sleeve second is bypass, as you can be bypassed after being sleeved but not vice versa if there are any later complications.

Both require you to take vitamin supplements for life, but bypass also requires b12 jabs.

Of course if you have the money to go private, then you have different options and other options later (body sculpting)

Other than that they do like to get you to do a prolonged liquid diet (not beer) to prepare for surgery

I had a gastric sleeve in January 2018 on the NHS at

I was a size 24/26 and before surgery my consultant asked me what size I wanted to achieve. I said a size 16/18 and he said he thought that was very realistic. I lost 7 stone in the first 18 months and have maintained since then.

You get used to eating much smaller portions. It’s definitely something that you have to keep working at and you do have to educate yourself about how to eat healthier. I never feel as though I am denying myself anything, because if I really want to eat a chocolate bar etc I will do so, but mostly I just have the one not a whole multi pack.

The loose skin is not so great, but a small price to pay.

It’s definitely not an easy option, but if you are determined it really helps break the vicious circle of being too fat to exercise properly.

I am the fittest that I have ever been. I feel great!

One of the best decisions I ever made!!
