Last dog i had a walker, because i was out at work from 8 until somtines 7 at night it wasnt fair to leave him alone all day. I walked him early morning then had a walker at 2pm even if i was working from home it was useful to have her to walk him, and im all for employing others.

I have a simular view, I.e why have a dog and not train it?

The amount if people I see with there dog taking them for a walk is unreal... come to the conclusion that its the same reason people do most things- self gratification/vanity/ego!

If the dog is happy, and the owners are happy- who cares.

I’ve got a big dog, who sleeps the whole time he’s in the house, I’m not sure the size of the home matters.

Could he be a dogger ?? He may just be borrowing the dog to avoid suspicion and it will be his alibi if the police challenge him down a country lane peering i to cars at night. ( unless he also has his trousers around his ankles at the time in which case having tbe dog with him may get him into a hell of a lot more trouble !!

There's a website where you can lend your dog out. Someone can borrow your dog and walk it for you.

It has many benefits and I've thought about borrowing a dog to walk after losing my own beloved girl.

Also, they could be working from home, you have no idea, and regardless of however they want to get their dog the exercise it needs, they're covering it so it's all good

They might be working from home.

They might have hidden disabilities.

The dog walking company could be owned by a family member or friend.

It could have been a long term arrangement that they've maintained to help with Covid situation.

Because they can afford it.

To give them some time alone at home.

My daughter in law does this for a living and earns good money from it, she is qualified and insured and she also has a background in training

She has a few disabled clients on her books who some days physically can't exercise their dogs.

Some of her clients work long hours

Some of her clients have more money than sense and pay for her services because they can

Some clients want one to one training so she will combine that with walking them.

Lots of reasons, at least these people aren't leaving their dogs alone for hours on end and care enough to make sure their pets needs are fulfilled

I get op's sentiment that if you take on a pet you look after it, there are of course reasons they may be using a dog walker.

Either way, I know we are all bored but stop curtain twitching & making assumptions.

Many have posted loads of valid reasons why they may have a dog walker. But I have a friend who employs one for none of the above reasons, she got the dog because it was cute and totally underestimated the amount of time walking it required so she employs a dog walker. My ex brother in law got a golden retriever again underestimated how much hard work he'd be and had to give the dog up. But regardless as long as the dogs welfare is taken into account it's all good. Though I do wish some people did more research before getting a dog.

I love my dogs but I often HATE walking them, particularly days like today when it is wet and rainy. I still do it, obviously, but if I could afford to pay someone to do it, I'd be very tempted.

I once had a neighbour threaten to call the RSPCA on me for "not walking my dogs".

I walk them early in the morning and very late at night, because one of them has problems with anxiety and it's best for us to avoid people.

I hate interfering, nosey people.

(And if anyone wonders - no, as far as I know, they never made the report. Kind of wish they had, because they would have looked stupid in the end.)

Why, if people work long hours, they don't want to spend their free time doing domestic chores.

A family member has a live in domestic helper 50 weeks a year... It's great, party until the early hours, go to bed with the house looking like a bomb site, and by the time you wake up it's miraculously clean and tidy. They work hard and they can afford it.

I've been called facetious and I wasn't, I was accused of knowing nothing about my neighbours and I do (was retracted), I haven't said I didn't like the answer.

So yes there probably are valid reasons to own a dog and employ walkers but honestly, someone above suggested it's so that people who are dog walkers are employed, get real, that's a reason to own a dog. This forum can be an ugly place, won't be back.

Not a single person said they get a dog to keep a dog walker in employment, so nobody needs to get real. Given the current financial climate where people are losing jobs left and right, if ya can afford to keep someone like a dog walker employed then surely that's a good thing?

And you have been facetious, you've been given plenty of valid and personal answers yet refused to accept or at least try to understand any of them.

My first list you ignored all of the reasons and just came back with "no, it's a different guy"

If I had a dog at the moment and someone else walked it for me I'd be feeling really self conscious at the judgement you're passing and wondering if my neighbours were feeling the same about me, that I should replace my dog who I love with all my heart with a "fluffy cushion". I'm still alive and I can find other things to do to occupy my time. I'm pretty good at occupying myself.

Maybe they can't walk far. Maybe they love the dog and not the walks. Maybe to get a break from the dog. Maybe they have other things to do. Anyhow .... I don't see that it should affect anyone else but them.

People have children then run umpteen jobs to keep them and never see them. So I guess it's okay for the dogs too.

Because they have enough money. Because I would rather stay in and watch Netflix when I'm not in the mood to walk a dog. Because they work and don't have the time for their dog to get a good amount of exercise. Plenty of reasons. It's good they care for their doggo enough to pay someone.

I would have wondered too OP, sometimes though reasons are not always obvious why people can't walk far so could be a reason why they wanted their dogs walked by someone

Of course they could be just lazy sods or can't be bothered and would rather pay someone to do it...they still get to have their dog when it isn't being walked

How about the same reason I employ a dog Walker? I have 2 German shepherd, when hubby isn’t working nights we walk them together, but when he’s on nights I employ a dog Walker to walk them as I wouldn’t be able to take them both on my own and because if I walk them solo then the other is at home barking and waking my hubby up.

It’s also ideal to get dogs walked in groups to socialise, also gets them used to different walking routes and different people.

My dog Walker is amazing and has access to her own field where my dogs can be off the leash and run themselves til their heart is content.

As stated above numerous times, diff people have diff reasons . If it makes you so curious then ask them and find out?
