Chinese Takeaway near you

Ello ello here is the scenario

You are stood in the middle of a big cruise ship far at sea. You hear screams at both ends of the ship & realise at 1 end a stranger's '2yr old toddler' has fallen & at the other your 'brother/sister' has fallen in!! Both can't swim & you have only enough time to jump in & save '1' before the other drowns

Who do you save? No wrong answer

"We're a couple, so I'll send Mr KC one way and I'll go the other "

Same here, if that’s not an option it would depend on which sibling.

Presumably if a 2 year old has fallen in their parents would be their to sort that emergency and deploy someone to tell the Captain?? So I’d run to the side of the boat, get the big round life buoy and Chuck that over the side to my sibling whilst singing a Celina Dion song.

Would save the unrelated child as blood is thicker than water ?? so would take more time to drown.

There and to the left a bit

Well you would notice one incident before the other so whichever I saw first - would already be on my way to it unaware of the second

If we are on a cruise ship, wouldnt there be enough people around to save both?

Weirdsville South Coast Dorset

Firstly chuck sun loungers over marking a spot as a moving cruise ship isn't slow, by time anyone knows what the screams was the ship would of passed both overboard so jump in, scoop up 1 then 2, at least the sun loungers will help a little with bouency

I'd choose my sibling, it would be a choice without thought. And I don't wanna be rude but supppose that toddler turned out to be a really short person

Easy. I save the child. My brother is in his 50s. He can look after himself. He's a git anyway.

The relative will be known to me and I could quickly assess the potential, far easier than an unknown kid, to be able to help save them.

It's better to take a well calculated decision, preserving effort wisely. It may include getting to safety myself, to find effective help. Don't make a bad situation worse.

It's probably wiser to help those that you can communicate with, as they will be part of the process. Throwing a buoyancy aid to a 2 year old is probably of limited benefit but an adult would be able to use it better etc. A 2 year old under a ship probably has next to no chance, in comparison. Quick decisions needed, including already knowing the place and safety resources.

Assuming I'm strong enough to rescue someone who has fallen into the sea I'd save my brother or sister.

I'm guessing the toddler's relatives would be doing the same.

In reality though, if you fall off a cruise ship I read they can't stop to pick you up, so you're a goner.

surrounded by twinkly lights

I'd jump over at the same time as my fit young friend that I took on holiday with me and he would get the toddler as I dunked my sibling for being so stupid as to fall in

Wirral.

If it was my sister, I'd save her.

If it was one of my brothers - none of whom I'm in touch with - then I'd go see about the toddler.

If the ship is moving I would recommend that you didn't even think about leaping over the side to rescue anyone but alert the crew to the situation.

On most cruise ships the first of the open decks are fifty to a hundred feet above sea level. So unless you are an Olympic standard diver it will be like hitting concrete and then the propellers will drag you under the ship and quite possibly towards them.

It might have seemed like a heroic thing to do. It isn't.

Having been on a cruise ship.

If I was in the middle, there's no way I would hear what is happening at either end of it...

Well my brother CAN swim so I leap to save the toddler. I have insisted on removing the hypothetical I know. It's far easier

But ok, with such a rigid dillemna, I'd have to save my brother and reconcile and insist that the toddler was a son of Satan and that I had not only saved my brother but the world too.

I mean... I can't swim either, so we are all fucked.

But I'd have to try and save my sibling. It would haunt me otherwise.
