Why comment?

OK, we know we're opening a can on this one...

But why do people comment on question threads saying they don't know the answer or have no interest in finding out? Just leave it to those who do know/are interested.

I've seen so many lately, and on Amazon too where people have asked questions.

Q - "is this any good for...?"

Reply - "no idea, I've not got one"

Just move on.

Now go fill the thread with "I don't know" or "I don't care".

I'll do it sometimes if the thread has been up a while eith no replies as yet. I don't want the person especial if they're a name I don't recognise feeling totally blanked.

I suspect it's because they've received an email telling them there's a question on a product they bought. They're responding to it as though someone had individually asked them the question.

They don't understand the Q&A style.

Is annoying, I agree.

I find it a bit passive aggressive sometimes too. Especially on threads where people like something and then you have people come along with the vomit emoji. It doesn't add anything to the discussion so it's totally pointless in my opinion

Yes, defintely get this. Sometimes it can completely derail a really good thread to and comes across as nothing more than negativity, bitterness and jealousy.

This is happening all too often unfortunately.

It's not just the kink shaming, it's also the snide comments when people enquire about a sexual preference or looking for a particular age bracket.

I seriously had to bite my tongue on some threads yesterday when it was happening.

They're important to some people

I witnessed a FB friend have a paddy this morning because people weren't liking his posts

He felt ignored & overlooked

Posting random comments gets you noticed

Not always positively, but it gets your name out there, even if it is only 'oh no that twat again'

Because people have to keep up appearances, if they don’t comment on every thread their stock falls, if you can be the first to comment on every thread then they rise again. I only comment on threads where I am an expert in that chosen field, if it’s a topic I know nothing about, I go away and study the said topic, this can take anything up to 3 years, usually by this time the thread is either full or people have lost interest and moved on, so I’ve basically wasted my time, but I refuse to let these high standards I maintain for myself to drop.

Kind of agree with this. Though I'm trying to think have I ever done it and I think I may have once or twice... I can't explain why I did it either! So yes, wanted to be involved and join the discussion without actually having anything to truely input towards it.
