Anyone else at uni

Just wondering how anyone else is finding uni in these crazy times.

I'm actually preferring working from home, mainly as I live at home anyway so not missing out on the uni experience but must be hard for others.

My daughter's seriously missing out on what should be a mainly practical degree! And also on the socialising and fun ... most of her friends are depressed as! It's awful for them all ... and that's her first and second years!

I'm considering another degree but this one will be a Open University one so all from home!

Was in uni accom for first but stuck at home atm as our accoms havent opened this term which is great

All online is not so good for subjects like mine where im meant to have labs plus freshers was ruined... good first year so far

I have recently completed another degree, it was a bit of a struggle during the lockdown. My main disappointment we were not able to have an graduation due to covid. I have experience graduation from my first degree and it does give a sense of positive and proud achievements with my family.

I don't know how students at university manage with this lockdown, but i take my hat off to them.

It's been a poor substitute for immersive learning. Not being able to have quick chats with staff and students is a big loss, as small jumps in understanding of things are significant steps in the learning process. Not having exercise and sport facilities is a loss too . They closed fully with the last lockdown.

Online learning isn't great, especially if you're like me and 1 of the main talkers and contributors in classes. OK, some may appreciate getting away from me but it's a key feature. Booking private cam sessions with lecturers isn't the same, by a long shot, to having a coffee together etc. It's delayed, away from the moment when you would have got answers too.

Just completed a degree (not via a Uni though) which I’d started last January. In the March it all went to online only - I found it easier as it tied in with my childcare) so I was doing that as well as home schooling as my kids were home but it worked out ok.

I do feel for those who are missing out on their Uni experience.

I'm not at uni, but had to do an online course these last two weeks and I don't know how you are all dealing so well with the zoom lessons etc.

I am and the home working side is ok for me as my subject isn't practical, plus I'm home schooling at the same time so I can go between being student and teacher. It's a juggling act but not too bad.

I really feel for younger students though, my stepson missed having a school prom, going out for his 18th and his whole uni first year has been pretty crap as he's stuck in a bedroom doing the boring parts without any of the fun .

I was suppose to start in Sept but managed to push it back to Sept 21....frustrating not being able to move out....but also really glad i did push it back, a few friends stuck to starting in Sept and they are gutted about missing out on the social bits and bobs. I just hope it'll be a fairly normal 1st year for me when I start in sept and i get to enjoy the social side of it that they aren't getting now

Thats really bad! The least they could do is keep you up to speed with whats going on.

One of my friends dropped out after last term, which was her first term, now she's fighting to get her money back

I know covid has hit everyone, but I think uni and older student issues aren't covered enough in the news....probably just think that because its whats effected me the most
