Happy 75th birthday Dolly Parton!

She's everything I want to be when I grow up. Ridiculously talented, total grafter and doesn't give a shit about being judged.

Hefty Hideaway

I adore the woman. I really do. She knows how to keep a man, how to raise up her women and how to write a bloody good tune.

What Would Dolly Do? Is a great thing to ask when in a quandary.

Talent, brains, loyalty, kindness, social conscience...

I honestly can't gush enough about her , the woman's in a league of her own!

Her own famous quote is something like 'you have no idea how much it costs to look this cheap'. Kind, generous lady

Ach Lana

This song always has me bawling

https://youtu.be/TR-tq85L4A8

Give it a listen

It's about her Dad going North to go and work in the motor plants to give his family a better life, but he misses them too much and wants to come home

I am not really interested in celebrity

I can count on one hand the celebrities that actually inspire me

Dolly is up there

Elvis Presley wanted to record ‘I Will Always Love You’ but his manager said Dolly had to sign over half the publishing rights (money for the writer).

Even though she loved Elvis and it would have been a huge hit, she refused on principle. Later of course it became a massive hit for Whitney and Dolly made millions.

She also wrote that song and Jolene in ONE DAY in 1972 !

Have you watched the Heartstrings series on Netflix Lana?

8 episodes, each loosely based on one of her songs

Kinda schmaltzy 'everything comes good in the end' stuff, but still worth a watch

Oh, and gentlemen, before you right it off, if nothing else, watch episode 1 'Jolene' with Julianne Hough in the lead role

Oofety Oof

I haven't as I wasn't sure I'd be into those. Definitely sounds like something I could trip and fall into with a wine one night though

I saw her live in Dublin

The show got me on a high, but I finished the night on a low

I got a little tipsy on Tia Maria topped Guinness afterwards, fell down some stairs onto a dancefloor, breaking my ankle in the process

She's put a lot of money into research yes. And she runs a literary scheme. She's a very philanthropic lady.

I tried watching earlier btw. I thought they'd be pretty wholesome, hallmark-style viewing so was giving my 8 year old the whole girl power and altruism spiel about Dolly then we put them on...she almost exploded laughing when they used the word titties and I thought 'ach that's not too bad' so carried on until the sex night and we had to switch to iCarly ! I'll go back to it though, and you're right, Jolene is stunning!
