Travelling

Have you ever introduced something that you greatly enjoyed to somebody that you no longer "agree" with, and now because of the rift you can no longer enjoy that thing?

Be it a song, movie, TV show, food, sexual position. Anything at all that you are just unable to enjoy on the same level, if at all.

For me it is a movie, I finally got somebody to watch it after son long and now I just can't bring myself to watch it anymore.

Yes!! There’s a couple of songs and a movie I can no longer watch as the person who introduced me to them and I have parted ways..not on bad terms but the emotions connected to them and the individual override the film and song. I hope in time this Will change

This is an interesting concept.

I don't think it's happened to me, but OP, I'm guessing this symbolises that the friendship bond is greater than the bond you had with the film, or the item shared?

somewhere, someplace

There are a couple of songs I can't listen to without it dredging up some pain thanks to the ex and his antics

It's probably me by Sting and Eric Clapton.

I can bring myself to listen to it, however it always brings some grief over the lost hopes and life altering events. 17 years later.

In fact it's on now.. because its important for me to face it and turn the page. Like over anything else what belongs to the past.

Manchester (she/her)

No. Absolutely not.

I'll stop consuming media if I discover it's problematic, but my enjoyment is my own.

shits creek

I do understand that.

Going to my fave club is one of those things. I loved going as a single and then I went with my ex and now it just feels tainted.

It sounds daft to me even saying it, but I can't deny that's how I feel.

Maybe. Or having shared it with them has tainted it.

Would depend on how things ended, sometimes the new feeling towards the "thing" is now fueled by hate, and not sadness. Obviously always different levels like everything but bottom line is I can no longer enjoy or get enthusiastic (but definitely not bored) about watching it.

Yeah I agree, the cause of the end to the friendship will play an important part.

If it's hate, it would ruin the item for me also.

But if it's sadness, well I'm a soppy git at times.

I have songs with really deep meanings that make me cry. I like to get this emotion out of me by bubbling my eyes out, its a cleansing process.

If that makes sense.

surrounded by twinkly lights

No. I have favourite things for myself, I may occasionally share them with others but I'm not letting anyone ruin a pleasure of mine.

If it was something we discovered together then my feelings may be tainted but that depends on how much I want it in my life, I introduced my ex to a favourite hobby of mine which he was a part of for 5 years, I just made new memories when we split as I wasn't going to lose it because of him. I fought with myself to keep it.

Sorry I'm waffling again x

There's nothing I can't bring myself to watch or listen too, but there are things that bring a momentary sting or wave of sadness. It passes though, and I get on with enjoying the music/show/film.
