With this I mean are you an animal person where they seem to like you to come over to you? I seem to have that effect on them which I like and the latest one is the cat I meet in the park sometimes. I like it. I have read that one reason that it happens is cos you have a high energy level which they can sense

Conversely to the OP's suggestion, I'm told that it's because I have a "very calm energy" that animals respond positively to.

In extreme cases, "Be careful of my dog! He hates strangers, especially men!" translates to said giant guard dog being asleep on my lap inside half an hour.

If I had to articulate the secret: Be calm, be quiet, and let the animal choose you (or not). Never try to force anything.

Dogs yes, cats are hit miss.

There's one that lives at the other end of my road and I've named it "happiness cat" because he always seems to pop up when I'm having a cry day. There he is on the wall. You can't walk past without stroking him, he'll scream at ya til you do and whe you try to take your hand away he gently pulls it back in.

That's the moment when the sad tears turn to appreciative ones and you're reminded that the world isn't all bad.

One of my old neighbours that was diagonal had a rotty called bitch. There's no doubt she was trained to aggy. She was mainly in the garden and anyone walking past the house would get properly growled at, you know the growl and barks, the ones that mean business. When she was walked you crossed the road jobby. Her owner was the local crim.

One day she got out and people couldn't get back in their houses quick enough. I on the other hand was more concerned about her getting hit by a car or attacking a child. Kids running are very exciting!

So out I went, sat on the floor and started talking to her. Only took a couple of minutes and she was walking by my side back to her house much to the shock of her owner.

I've always had pets, as much as the heartache they cause when you lose them, I wouldn't be without one.

Pet people seem to be much nicer people in life as well.

My daughter said to me that animals and children like me because I'm calm.

Yes, I always have done. Not just domestic dogs and cats either. Farm animals, particularly horses tend to come over to say hi. There is a breeding pair of swans near me and they will take food from my hand. They used to be a bit skittish every year they had cygnets, although the cob would always take from me. Now, both parents will let the cygnets take from me once they are big enough. It's nice.

I have pet ferrets, they have a very unique smell to them

When I am out and about dogs either love me or bark at me all confused as to what I smell off

Dogs are smart the owners not so, amount of times I have to explain I have ferrets and they smell funny...

I was asked when out on a walk yesterday if I had the ferret with me!

I had a dog for 13 yrs a cat for 11...they loved me.

I would never harm any animal but I wouldn't say I'm a great domestic animal lover.

I don't stop to pat animals but I've fed hungry ones.

Would they choose to come to me? On occasion

I think they can certainly feel comfortable with some people. My daughter had a Leopard Gecko. He would only come out and sit on her or me.

Animals BLOODY love me, but as 90% of this thread says the same I feel slightly disingenuous.

I can guarantee that if I were put in a room with any of these mugs (and a dog) it would wag it's way straight to me.

They know I'm part feral.

Sick animals always end up on my doorstep, rescued countless birds, nursed poorly cats and had dogs limp to my door after being hit by cars or hurt. Recent one was before Christmas, this poorly boy was found on my doorstep in a bad way, shallow breathing and very weak. Gave him water and drove him to the emergency vets, when I rang up in the morning he had passed, just grateful he passed away in the warm in company and not in the cold. Still upset me though

I'm a natural when it comes to dogs cats birds and most others guess they sense my animal instinct I get loads of birds who come to my garden standing their looking at me turning their heads and at times bring their whole family to show me standing in a line I always miss the opportunity to take a photo

Yes, I find it a bit annoying to be fair. I’ve always been wary of dogs when I was younger I got attacked (randomly) as a kid.

I’m assuming they can sense the feelings and are just interested. But digs always make a bee line for me.

Cats too when I go to friends (pre covid) they always want to sit with/on me.

I definitely do.

When out walking recently along my local stretch of the canal, I was approched by a friendly dog.

All tail waggy and wanted petting.

I asked the owners who were still a far way off, can I pet him/her?

And they said of course! And I had an enjoyable doggo moment while they discussed between themselves and to me how "he doesn't normally do that! He doesn't like strangers, and normally runs away! And you must be a dog whisperer or something! Lol"

I just replied that "it was probably because I just smiled at him and appeared friendly and unthreatening !"

A lot of clients that I visit have dogs and I find that ignoring them is the best thing as a) I don't want a slobbering hound in my lap whilst I'm talking to someone, and b) if you ignore them they don't feel threatened and are more likely to say hi if they are so inclined. I sometimes have to survey clients land and it's not unusual for their dogs to come with me.

Yep, that's it! The "terrifying" guard dog in my story was a Rottweiler too. They're such lovely dogs. All the ones I've met have been big soft teddy bears. Thank you for intervening and getting Bitch there home safe.

I have a local cat that visits me most days. Sleeps in garden if warm and scratches to come in for attention and a sleep. Also have a tame female blackbird that waits at the back door for her sultana treats. A rock dove pair visited in summer. The female would fly onto my knee or shoulder until I got their birdseed out.

Yes and anyone my dogs dont like I am suspicious of ! I like animals better than humans if I'm honest! I even attract the seagulls! They start screaming when I get home from work every morning as cycle down the road! But tbh I think that's more because the first thing I do is feed them their breakfast! Not sure the neighbours appreciate it ha ha x

They like sweet blood - so if you eat a lot of sweet stuff or fruit or wear perfume or use perfumed body stuff they will make a bee line for you.

Many ferret owners walk them on leads with a harness. There is a local guy who has a giant comodo lizard and walks it on the beach as it likes eating the sea. The local kids love seeing it.

Animals seem to know that I love them and will come up to me. This happens with Babies and Elderly People too. So it's a heart warming feeling everytime .

At times I've rescued the birds who constantly come to my garden when it rains unexpectedly and see them hiding from the rain on the ground next to my shed wall and gently pick them up and bring them in sit them down near the fire and they are amused by the television and watch it obviously I keep bird food so feed them and let it out following morning I did used to have two budgies and could put their cage outside door open they'd fly out spread their wings flying around and still come back to the cage
