An F reg Ford Fiesta XR2, had an RS1800 engine in it.

I was 17 (20 years ago) and I couldn't afford insurance surprisingly... so used my dads name, which conveniently... is the same as mine

You've just brought back some very unhappy memories.

I bought my first car when I had my first overseas posting to Germany in 1974.

It was a 1966 VW Karman Ghia. It was right hand drive and was Grey with a blue roof. I had it resprayed yellow, but kept the blue roof. It was gorgeous. I got rather carried away on my very first drive out in it and lost control and wrote it off. I cried.

If I had it now it would be worth around £30,000

Austin Allegro, was great little car, despite its reputation, cheap(ISH) to insure, I found it so good my next three cars were all Allegro's.

Cheap to buy then and cheap to maintain and run.

I past my test 4 weeks after my 17th birthday in 1987 and had saved the money by doing literally 3 jobs at once to buy a 3 year old, 1.3l mk3 escort, 2 door in sunburst red.

My first car was a Corsa. I had it from new but completely trashed it within a couple of years. I didn't realise you needed to put oil in, and when the engine started getting noisy I just turned the radio up.

A late 1970s Datsun Sunny.

Lovely to drive, cheap insurance, good mpg, easy to maintain, shame the bodywork rusted away until there was more filler than steel.

When it was about to fail its MOT I gave it to my parents who used it to trade in for a newer car, they got £1500 off the price

I had a old burgundy Vauxhall Viva I bought from the auctions. The previous owner had obviously loved and taken great care of it..On at least a couple of occasions it was seen being driven about late at night close to where I lived, but always returned. Never did find out who was taking it!
