Missing the gym ;-(

Is anyone else missing the gym?

I had covid in March and related health issues.

I was going to the gym 4 x a week and getting fit again.

Then lockdowns again.

I miss it hugely, the garage gym doesn’t even come close to the physical and mental aspects that the gyms provide, hopefully it is able to re open soon

Yeah missing the squat rack and the weights. There's a guy posting about only needing to do pull ups, press ups, sit ups and plank for everything a gym could offer.

Not convinced personally. I also strangely miss the body builders screaming at each other as they lift. Weird shit hey

I am so grateful that my gym is the great outdoors, I would be so sad to be told that I couldn't do the activity that I love (running).

I fully understand everyone's frustration and sadness from not being able to go to the gym and I hope they return soon for you all.

I’m a mountain biker and haven’t been cycling as much as I should I was cycling five days a week, four of those days were cardio interval training for an hour at so the 5th was out in the wild on some mountain somewhere enjoying the sights but now I’ve stopped training I’m finding it hard to get back to it.

Its changed my well-being and my health my resting heart beat has gone from 51bpm to 62bpm

I've never set foot in a gym before so it doesn't bother me. I got my home weight set so that will do me.. it does have its limitations but you do what you can really with what you got. Even extending your set can prove tricky as most online stores are out of stock of everything

Ain’t that the truth ! I can’t stand people who film in the gyms. Feel like it’s very rude and obnoxious quite happily go kick their wee phone over

I miss the gym it was one of my hobbies/activities that I really enjoyed doing!

Sadly it will probably be shut for quite sometime, it’s hard when you consider it part of your life & structure. I have had to tell myself this and accept there is nothing I can do out of my control so I have been focusing on running again and yoga (the weather starting to pick up) makes it a little easier!

We’ll get through this keep positive I know it’s not easy

Absolutely. I am missing it like crazy. It was the place I went for 'ne' time, some space and it was a great distraction.

I felt fitter and healthier and happier.

So many people are struggling. Rates of Covid being passed on through gyms was minimal. It's all very frustrating.

Yeah yoga seems to be making a come back. I'll have to look at something on line. Like most runners I never stretch enough.

Wall assisted squats are good, less strain on the knees for extra assistance have a small yoga/exercise ball behind your back to make the transition smoother and less jerky

Further question , who is still paying their DD to your gym? I'm in a bit of bind with that one as it's an independent gym . Yet no thank you / acknowledgement posts to everyone. This gripes me somewhat. Especially as it's not confirmed when gyms shall be opening again ..

It's been frustrating making good progress between March and November then having the plug pulled. I am working out from home and making the best of the situation.

I'm still paying my £50 a month as it is a lady who runs the gym by herself single handedly. I want her to still be there after this shit storm has passed so I am financially supporting her.

I've made a home gym, but it's not the same. But on the plus side, I've been doing stuff I'd never have tried before and really enjoyed it.

I have a fab outdoor gym in the park, and my running miles have gone through the roof.

Missing it badly

I used to swim 2k 3 times a week and some strength training as well.

For me it was meant to be building up to an Ironman in Switzerland in July.

Looking like it will be put of until next year now.

Hopefully things will start getting back to normal soon

Massively so but after the first lockdown I got back up to my previous strength drastically quicker than it took me to get their in the first place so I'm not as stressed about all my work being undone as last time. I miss going though. At least hopefully it will be starting to get sunnier when they're open again. I always find it easier to motivate myself to go when it's lighter in the mornings.

Incredibly! I’m not the fittest person but it was never all about only getting fit or muscly for me. Surely I was enjoying lifting, pushing and pulling the weights around and feeling healthier/stronger. Gyms being shut really affected my mental health during the lockdown in November. I’m handling it better now but it is really hard not to have a place to go and release that unwanted energy.

I miss it quite a lot. I'm no bodybuilder but I do miss lifting weights, I miss seeing myself progress. I miss winding down at the gym after a long day of work.

I miss the health benefits too. My back and neck hurt unless I exercise my core. It's hard to do that properly at home. I still do ab rollouts and planks but there's no substitute to deadlifting.

I used to run a little during the first lockdown when it was warm and sunny, but I can't brave running in the cold!
