"I fancy simple tomato soup my Grandma makes. It's thinner than Cream of Tomato and is usually served with little pasta shapes or rice. Some dill on top.. perfect. What's a Scotch broth?" Vegetable soup with barley and pulses (dried peas, yellow split peas, lentils etc) in it, usually made with lamb or beef stock, really tasty and filling especially with homemade bread slathered in butter to dunk in it. | |||

"Oh, I haven't even made a pan of soup this year but my go to is usually chicken and lentil, or ham hock. Glad your doing on the hob OP, a few family members have soup makers, keep telling them granny would be spinning in her grave " I can't understand why a soup maker even exists, pan and a stick blender (or even a seive, wooden spoon and a bit o elbow grease) does the job just as well and in my humble opinion better than any overpriced gadget that'll end up languishing at the back of a cupboard alongside the toastie maker, panini press, fondu set and all the other faddy gadgets the non cooks out there get conned into buying by the marketing men lol.
