Why is it so hard, moving things forward, to exchange phone numbers? Surely in this age of being able to block and delete if it doesn’t go well, why is it such an issue to exchange numbers?

I am a technical retard, I never know how far someone can go with my phone number if it goes wrong. Plus they can use multiple phones to ring the same number, you can be blocking forever.

Pay and go SIM card sis is the way to go that’s what I do swap out sims pay and go for swingeing that way if number ends up somewhere it shouldn’t then it’s a easy snap and change without needing to explain to family and friends about why I am changeing my number x

We do give our phone numbers out for WhatsApp group chats with females or couples. Single guys its different because they either end up hounding mrs or they just don't have the banter we require to continue the conversation lol

Giving your phone number opens up a whole number of possibilities to potentially track you down - which when we are talking about giving it to a random stranger on an internet site could be a dangerous thing.

Giving someone my number opens up the potential for them to be able to find my Facebook, various other social media accounts and other personal information - about 6 or 7 years ago a far right group (Britain First) objected to a comment I made on FB about them - they were able to track me from there to LinkedIn where they were then able to locate my employer and report me for "harrassment" - now fortunately my employer took it with a pinch of salt and effectively asked them to prove it, which they never did, but it could have gone the other way and had a massive impact.

So now only people I implicitly trust get my number or other personal details - if you want to have voice or video conversations there are several apps that allow you to do that without exchanging numbers.

There is only one person I've given my mobile number to off Fab.

And that's cos I trust him 100%

We text daily and he's a close friend and we help eachother with the shit life throws at us.

But that's different.

Well I've had stalkers call my number and leave creepy messages on my phone, it was everyday. Was so bad I had to inform the police as they were calling all the time. Oh yeah, had another incident where my number and photos were left on some hooker website. All of a sudden got texts from random dudes asking if I was available. Never again.

This + used LinkedIn to all my colleagues with photos & lies & put me on several sites & sent 2-4 blokes to my house every night for over a month....police did nothing!

Ended up having to move twice, cars damaged, one of my car burnt out after I moved, so now no social media at all, no nudes (I didn't give them to him in the first place, hacked my laptop), old android phone that allows all permissions to be turned off & 6 numbers later.

Highly unlikely to give out my number.

Even with the block option on your phone though still doesn't stop someone tracking you into WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn and other ways...in fact pretty much anywhere your phone is linked to.

I agree if you've built a level of trust that the risk diminishes the more that trust builds, and pretty much anyone I meet gets my phone number for their security - but then I only used to meet people that I had built a level of trust with.

There is no right or wrong to it - we each make our own risk assessments and decide what's best for us.

I go through phases where I lose all interest and delete Fab and Kik, so I only swap numbers with the people I intend to stay in contact with longer term. Anyone pushing for it before we're actual friends would put me off.

Since I've joined it's how deep the conversation are in making each other feel comfortable to give out numbers and I've always felt very much appreciated when I've asked and their happy to my respect is a very solid one and those whose number I've had knows this but I could say same about them but seems like they have been just like myself and that is a lovely thing to have as it's a nicer way getting to know each other calmly I'm not one of those who sends hundreds of messages just because I didn't get a response and all on here know I don't act like that

Exactly this - there are plenty of "secure" ways to be able to communicate with people, including voice/video calls, without the need to give any number out - nothing overly complicated in that and I've saved £20 plus top ups

Also resetting your previous device location I would always empty as this is keeping a record of you which all apps collect and if you delete a app and reinstall it'll ask you preference I never do as I'm giving them consent to my personal information...

Yes blocking a number is an option but as stated above, it doesn't stop people popping up on social media.

It takes a lot for me to give my number out. I use telegram where I can't be found and neither can my number. Very few people make it as far as having my phone number.

Trust plays a huge part in it.

People have appeared on my "people you may know" on FB and I'm assuming I've showed up on theirs but again hasn't been a problem.

If a weirdo on here shared my number with other weirdos it would be an issue. I’d have to change my number. Blocking will only work if someone uses the same number each time.

If a weirdo connected my profile with my number and stared it online my privacy would be compromised and my children, parents, employer etc. Could find out and I don’t want them to.

I don’t want to receive calls when I’m with friends, family, colleagues etc.

If I trusted someone and felt comfortable I’d share my number. I don’t know anyone on here from Adam.

If someone really wanted to speak via the phone I’d suggest a video call instead. Or I’d call them and withhold my number.

If someone is desperate for my number and won’t consider alternative means of communication it would seem very suspicious.

Also, aside from safety, if you have a few chats going on it's neater to keep them on here or an app like kik than have them dotted in between WhatsApp chats with friends and family. Saves having to constantly shield your phone from kids eyes (although in a lot of cases it's partners eyes and not kids!)

In fact there is only a very small amount of people on here who have my number and that is only because I trust them.It's too easy to find out information about someone if you give your number out and after a friend got hassled for months from a guy who kept calling her at all hours on different phones I wont be changing my mind either.

I’d have a phone conversation, I’d just withhold my number first. If we met for a social, got along fine and planned to have further meets I might consider swapping numbers but there are various other ways we can chat with each other. The red flag for me would be someone insisting on getting my number and not willing to consider the other methods of communication. You don’t need to share numbers for a video call, for example.

I think this thread has shown clearly that isn't the case the majority of the time - and there's a world of difference sharing pics etc that can't necessarily be traced back to the owner and a phone number that can (again as shown on this thread).

Ultimately it's a matter of personal judgement and preference - would I give my number out to a random person I've only just started talking to, but don't really know that well if it meant I'd get a meet? No way in the world would I.

Would I give my number to someone I'd built a level of trust with and got to know a little? I've insisted on doing so for their own safety in the past.

There are many ways that people can establish how genuine someone is without having to give their phone number and without it meaning they are a catfish for not giving it.

It's because some people don't consider having a disposable number, which they could get rid of, should they ever need to. They won't be traceable from it, as they'd just use it for this.

Ideally used with a dual SIM phone, that can thus have 2 phone numbers active on it, all of the time, for calls, texts etc.

A PAYG sim card may only need topping up every few months, so isn't a huge cost.

Some will give a number, others won't.

I guess if you've not been impacted in some way by giving your number to relative strangers then you would see it as comedy - but trust me there was nothing in the slightest bit funny about my employment being threatened because a far right group had access to mine!!

As I've said I give my number to people I trust and those I am meeting - but it's certainly not something I give up lightly, and I respect those that choose not to at all - there are many ways of maintaining contact and unless you're meeting in some remote location (which I'd question the sanity of doing) then these days being without internet access of any kind is extremely rare.

I actually had this exact scenario occur last year and we found each other in the place that we’d agreed to meet.

I think it was fate.

We three had the most fantastic sex in a hotel room after many cocktails and laughing.

This site is meant for people to meet and have great sex.. Not practice spy craft .....

We are meeting people for sex not doing international nuclear arms deals...

But I have to ask everyone that doesn’t give out their numbers a serious question.....

What if you and the person you’re meeting show up to the destination and there is no internet service?

How do you find each other?

I guess if you've not been impacted in some way by giving your number to relative strangers then you would see it as comedy - but trust me there was nothing in the slightest bit funny about my employment being threatened because a far right group had access to mine!!

As I've said I give my number to people I trust and those I am meeting - but it's certainly not something I give up lightly, and I respect those that choose not to at all - there are many ways of maintaining contact and unless you're meeting in some remote location (which I'd question the sanity of doing) then these days being without internet access of any kind is extremely rare.

These are three simple steps to meeting someone online for sex....

1 - exchange face pictures to gauge attraction

2 - Have a phone/video conversation to establish boundaries , expectations, and to verify people are not catfish...

3 - Meet in a public then if everything feels right , have great sex.....

We are not splitting atoms here .... We are just meeting people to have sex.... it’s not a crime...

It just seems odd to me to get a second phone and play like I’m James Bond .... Just to meet someone for a drink.....

Maybe I’m just too naive or just crazy

Certainly never been a faff for me the way I approach it.

Ohh I respect how everyone goes about meeting people... If I don’t like it , I just don’t meet them.....

It actually might come down to being a generational thing.....

I grew up meeting people on the internet and using my phone to communicate.....

Maybe the older generation feels like talking on the phone before a meet is just too much....

All I’m saying is if I am going to meet someone for sex.... I’m going to try to be as transparent as possible to show them I am a real person and to try to put their mind at easy.......

I don’t know how it is in the UK.... But if something nefarious does happen to me... I think it would be easier for the police to get and track my phone records from my mobile carrier, to find the last actual number I communicated with.....

Rather than waiting to find my actual phone to go through my internet browsing history and figure out my passwords.....
