Been a while since I picked up a book but the boredom is getting to me, so I have started "The witch finders sister"

It is a little slow to get going so I hope it picks up soon

I bought myself a couple of books for Christmas Ivy. One is Victoria Woods’ biography - which I’ve started on - and the other is ‘The Tattooist of Auchwitz’ - which I’ll be reading next. X

The tattooist of Auchwitz is a very good read but it’s graphic and upsetting. But it’s expected. I enjoyed it.

2 books

1. God's funeral -philosophy

2. The Justice Factory 2nd edition - will the rule OF law survive in 21st century Scotland - legal (basically comparing the laws now with how Russia operate)...they've tried to ban it already..

So if this new hate bill gets passed which makes v for vendetta type laws such as 'approved' reading materials & art, I'd become a criminal for owning it..

Quiet by Susan Cain. It's a study about the value of introverts. I'm about 3/4 way through. Had to take a break due to a personal situation. I found it quite enlightening.

Waiting for the postman to drop off House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski. This book seems to have a real cult following with Facebook groups formed around it. I'm a light reader so I hope it's not too challenging for me but I've had enough of Youtube/Fab/BBC News/work emails and my mind needs a change of scenery.

'House of Leaves' is not a 'light read'.

I read it when it was first published and you'll either think it's a work of unparalled genius or a load of old bollocks.

It has been variously described as 'postmodern', 'poststructural' and displaying 'avant-garde literary techniques'.

Article in the Guardian from last year ('House of Leaves' was published 20 years ago): https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/apr/02/house-of-leaves-changed-my-life-the-cult-novel-at-20 (read the comments as well to give you a 'flavour' of the book's reception).

Personnally I would rather read 'Ulysses' by Joyce again than tackle 'House of Leaves' for a second time.

Currently reading 'Flappers: Six Women of a Dangerous Generation' by Judith Mackrell - a non-fiction book about 6 women who typified the 1920s.
