Judging by quite a few of the answers above, we will never find out. Because some of them are terrible comedies

Just goes to prove that comedy is very much so very subjective and like most things there just isn't a best. Also there are just different sub genres of comedy - satire, dark, sitcom, old school, slapstick etc. Can't directly compare them.

Yeah, I'm that guy, as most should know by now

I'll narrow it down, 99% of shows with a laugh track are terrible because the laugh track attempts to subconsciously trigger the same in the viewer. Even "filmed in front of a live studio audience" often add laugh tracks during editing.

On a personal level the only laugh track comedy I've enjoyed is Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and that is mostly due to how much heart and some of the story lines, less so about the comedy itself.

I generally prefer a more subtle comedy, less "omg wasn't that hilarious" and more grounded like Phoenix Nights (not that I'm saying that is the best). The delivery in the tone and subtext is critical, comedic timing too.

Oh, I’m glad someone else liked Detectorists. Another one that never gets a mention is Early Doors, it’s low key, naturalistic, bit of a slow burner.
