Help please. Looking to buy our first Smart Television. I've trawled through endless reviews and still can't decide which is best and we can't go in a shop and ask now. We have a Sky HD + box, are they all compatible with this? Thank you x

You are asking the right man as I’m a telecoms engineer. As long as it is a hdmi ports any tv will be fine. All TVs on the market these days have hdmi ports, so the worlds your oyster

Oh thank you! I read some reviews where people were struggling to set up their sky box. We're not very tech savvy, are they easy to set up?

Totally agree. LG and Samsung are pretty much the same thing. I’d avoid any generic supermarket brand, Logik, cello etc. Also Sharp and JVC. For your money Samsung and LG are the ones

I know, I'm always nervous of technology, but I always manage to sort it..I could ask my 13 year old grandson but he's not allowed to visit at the moment!

As long as the TV has enough hdmi ports, you can plug in as many devices as there are ports

If your DVD player is an HDMI connection, you will need a tv that has at least 2 hdmi inputs, more is better. If it's an old dvd player it may still be scart. With Sky Q, not all tv's can work with the Sky Q remote but you will still be able to use the sky q remote for the box, and the original remote for the tv.

There and to the left a bit

Not so much a tip about which TV to get as opposed to where to get it - all John Lewis TVs come with a 5 year warranty (as opposed to the standard manufacturers 1 year that you have to pay to extend at other retailers) - so if you can find the model you want at John Lewis is worth considering.

As others have said looking at what ports are available on the TV and taking into account your existing peripherals (DVD player, PS/XBox etc) and ensuring you will be able to connect them is key.

Thanks for that we often buy from John Lewis, for exactly that reason and their after sales service is excellent

Don't know anything about TV's but just came on to say that Costco are open if you want to actually see what you are buying.

Currently have some good deals on the very large smart TVs.

We have not long bought a Samsung Crystal UHD (they have various sizes). The picture quality is fantastic and are reasonably priced imo.

As said before, as long as it has enough HDMI ports for what you need then you'll be fine. Most people only use 2, 3 if you run a gaming console. And with a Netflix sub or the like you probably wouldn't need the DVD player

Just one last thing to consider. If you guys watch live sport then make sure the refresh rate/frame rate is decent. You'll want 60hz minimum imo

That's what I personally look for. Most TVs are 'of good quality' but if it has a bad refresh rate whilst watching sport you'll find that a ball for example has a 'streamer' chasing it.
